Guernsey packs a lot into a small area, and its attractions reflect the island's layered history as much as its coastline. Castle Cornet dominates St Peter Port harbour with centuries of military history, while the German Occupation Museum and the German Military Underground Hospital give a sobering account of the wartime years. Fort Grey Shipwreck Museum, overlooking Rocquaine Bay, adds another angle on the island's relationship with the sea.
For time outdoors, Saumarez Park offers gardens and walking paths inland, while Petit Bot Bay is a good starting point for exploring the south coast cliffs. Outdoor Guernsey and Karting Guernsey suit those after something more active, and a trip to Herm for Shell Beach makes an easy day out by boat from town.

Between the museums, coastal spots and outdoor operators, it is easy to mix a few different types of day out without travelling far, since nowhere on Guernsey is much more than a short drive from anywhere else.
