A back-to-basics camping, touring, and glamping site in the Kent countryside. Family and dog friendly!

About Far and Away Camping

Heading for Dover ferries and adventures in Europe? Sticking around to explore Kent? Either way, Far and Away – just outside Headcorn village and 25 minutes' drive from Ashford – offers a quiet, rural space to spend the night. This back-to-basics pop-up site sits in a field sheltered by mature trees, with easy access to multiple public footpaths through untamed Kent countryside. Daily visits from red kites and eagles add a wildlife dimension, and on still nights you can hear lions roaring from The Big Cat Sanctuary across the fields.

Facilities are deliberately simple: a gas shower and composting toilet, but no electricity, so pack torches and batteries. The main attraction is simply being outdoors – perhaps with an evening drink by a firepit or trying some stargazing. Should you wish to make a trip up to London, there are super-easy train links from Headcorn Station to Charing Cross (about an hour and 20 minutes). Closer to home, pretty Kent villages like Biddenden, Tenterden and Cranbrook await, or splash out at the Designer Outlet Ashford half an hour away.

What a fantastic time we had at Far Acre, the setting is beautiful and the owner was an extremely friendly, helpful person and nothing was ever an issue from asking for more wood and enjoying the lovely eggs from the farm. We would highly recommend this campsite to friends and family with or without children. The site is quite and washroom facilities were always kept clean to a high standard. The bonus is the wine from the vineyard is amazing and we got through several bottles celebrating a 40th birthday. Can't wait to return, thank you for a great weekend. Can't wait to celebrate my birthday see you soon Jenny on the block

We had a last minute weekend stay at Far Acre, 4 adults and 4 children, just wanting a very quiet weekend camp together! Jennie was helpful from the start, literally as we arrived the rain came down, but she happily showed us to our pitch. Thankfully the rain didn't last long, we got set up, two tents plus an event shelter and relaxed! It's not a big site, and we were really pleased to see that Jennie & Alex restrict numbers there, rather than cramming in as many people as possible! Jennie came round later in the evening to make sure we were OK and again in the morning with eggs... which were the best I've tasted! The site facilities are limited to a small cabin with male and female toilets, plus a shower in each. A small washing up area was next to the block, with recycling and rubbish disposal, plus a chemical toilet emptying point. Some of the pitches have electrical hookup - not ours for the weekend though. On the Saturday evening Jennie came round with fire-wood for us (cheap compared to a lot of other camp sites we have been to), asked us how our stay was, and told us she wouldn't be around in the morning as she was out at a farmers market. In the morning we did have a visit from her daughter asking if everything as OK, a really nice touch! All in all it was just what we were looking for, and will most definitely be back! Steve.

What a lovely rustic no fuss campsite. Stayed here in very hot few days in August with my daughter so that we cd visit my mum. We loved the fact that Jennie was not ‘cashing in’ on other campsites being closed and cramming as many people in as possible. Her ethics to ensure a smaller number of campers had plenty of space was very welcome. It was also reassuring that security measures were in place at the gate so no worries about unwanted visitors at night and peace of mind when out for the day. Other likeminded campers were just having a relaxing time and all was quiet after 10.30. Jennie was delightful, welcoming and very helpful - my daughter was recovering from a back injury and she was always asking after her welfare. A perfect place for peace and space, thank you Jennie x

What a lovely site and nice that it was kept to only 12 pitches due to social distancing. Very clean toilets. Lovely family run site Jennie and her Daughter Lily looked after us well delivering their beautiful wine (we felt this was as good as any Top class champagne) . Nice farm fresh eggs delivered to us as well .... very nice that the site was quiet after 11 (not that we stayed up that late ) We were made very welcome we felt like we arrived as guests and left as friends .. we will be back with some of our friends ......
