Holly Lodge

This review comes late as I usually only write about places I enjoy. However, looking back I've decided to start sharing my experiences from places where I encountered some issues. I stayed at Holly lodge several years ago and I want to say how lovely the building was and so was our room. The breakfast spread was delightful as well. However, my experience with the host was quite disappointing. During breakfast my wife and I were essentially overlooked while other guests were warmly greeted and invited to sit. Other guests were offered juice and they we're explained the breakfast options, we were not. An older couple sitting nearby noticed how we were being treated and they felt embarrassed on our behalf. While other guests received attentive service and were asked if they needed anything else, we were again ignored.

An absolutely beautiful lodge and surroundings. Fiona and the staff are lovely and helpful. Since we don't have a driver's license ourselves, we could borrow mountain bikes or Fiona drove us to places where no bus goes. Though busy with work, she didn’t refuse to have a moment of fun with Highland coos. When there was a blackout due to a storm, she cooked a big pot of spaghetti bolognese and made salad for the guests. The bed is very comfortable and almost everything you need is provided. The breakfast, whether hot or cold, was always delicious. We definitely want to come back.

We spent two nights at Holly Lodge last week after they literally saved us!! The owner not only accommodated us last minute, she waited up very late till we arrived and we were greeted by the comfiest bed that had been beautifully warmed with hot water bottles. Our second night they made up an emergency room for us because they were technically full. I will be forever grateful for the kindness shown to us. Oh and the breakfast was delicious the honey is a must try. All the staff were simply lovely, friendly and so so welcoming. We will absolutely be back

I stayed at Holly Lodge in Strathpeffer for two nights in July 2025 and absolutely loved it. This charming property is full of character and ideally located – peaceful and quiet, yet just a short walk from all the local amenities. Fiona is a wonderful host – warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about the place. One of my favourite features was the guest lounge, a lovely space to relax in after a day out exploring. Breakfast was a real treat, with thoughtful touches like honey from their own bees and delicious homemade jams. It’s clear a lot of care goes into making guests feel at home. Holly Lodge is definitely somewhere I’d return to – not just for the hospitality, but also because Strathpeffer itself is a great base for exploring the area. Highly recommended!
