Kingussie sits in the Cairngorms National Park, surrounded by Caledonian forest and mountain ranges. Cardhu Lodge is part of the Loch Insh complex, a few minutes' walk from the loch itself and its outdoor centre, where watersports, archery, bike hire and a dry ski slope are all on offer. The Rothiemurchus Forest nearby has woodland trails through ancient pinewoods where red squirrels and deer roam. Aviemore is a short drive away if you want larger facilities or access to higher mountain terrain.
The lodge sleeps five across three bedrooms: a double, a twin, and a single upstairs. There is one shower room. The ground floor is open plan, with a living area, dining space and kitchen where you can cook properly—oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge all provided. Bed linen, towels, wi-fi and heating are included. You have parking for two cars on site, a garden with terrace and sitting area, and a shared children's play space. The lodge is yours alone; no smoking inside.
The surrounding landscape suits families and groups who want to be outdoors—walking, cycling, water activities or simply watching the loch. If cooking does not appeal, there is a restaurant on the complex itself.

The Chalet was nice. It was a typical wooden and rustic chalet with electric heating. It was advertised as a 3 bedroom chalet but the 3rd room was a tiny loft with a ladder. My 9 yr old daughter can barely fit standing. The photos and description of the Chalet did not make this clear. It was misleading. There were no toiletries provided. For the price that we paid, I just don't get why. These are very basic necessities. The shower is barely useable too. The TV was broken which did not matter that much really since it was just a tiny 24 inch TV. It's a shame since the location was really good and chalet could have been great if not let down by very basic things.

What a lovely place. The chalet was fantastic, in a great spot with a fantastic view. Only a very small markdown was due to the bed being quite uncomfortable, however this was a very small thing.

You're definitely picking this spot for the location. Although you do need to fend for yourself, it's not a hotel, all the facilities you need are included, just make sure to grocery shop on the way. Had a really nice breakfast with nice service, plenty of hiking and air so fresh it's like drinking cold water while thirsty. By no means perfect as it was a little dusty and one of the heaters didn't work, still had a nice stay as the kitchen was super modern and the lodge was warm.

I'm sorry to say that my recent stay at Loch Insh Chalets & Apartments was a disappointing experience. Despite paying a high price of almost £ 1000, the hotel management treated me unfairly and unprofessionally. To begin with, I was given what I believe was the worst chalet available, which was below my expectations. The hotel should have provided me with a clean and comfortable chalet that met my expectations. In addition, I was asked to book beach activities in advance via email, but when I did, I was told to call instead. Despite calling several times, there was no answer, so I sent an email and was told that I could book the activities once I arrived. This miscommunication was frustrating, and it seemed like the hotel did not have a clear system in place for booking activities. When I arrived and attempted to book the activities with the receptionist, she was rude to me and my family. She also lied to me about the opening time of the activities, making it difficult for me to plan my day. This behavior was completely unacceptable, and the hotel staff should have been professional and helpful. Overall, my experience at Loch Insh Chalets & Apartments was disappointing, and I believe the hotel management should be held accountable for their unprofessional behavior. It's important for hotels to treat their guests with respect and provide them with the services they paid for.
