Secluded camping and glamping with direct access to the Peak District National Park.

About Unthank Lane Farm

Tucked into a secluded corner of Derbyshire with direct access to the Peak District National Park, Unthank Lane Farm offers both camping and glamping in genuinely peaceful surroundings. The site's quiet, rural setting makes it ideal for families seeking an escape from the everyday – though be aware there's no WiFi, so you'll be properly off-grid. Facilities cover the essentials with showers, toilets and drinking water.

The location is the real draw here: walkers can step straight onto Peak District trails from the farm, and the rolling countryside feels wonderfully remote without being impractical. Note that pets aren't permitted on site, so you'll need to leave four-legged friends at home.

Beautiful scenery, lovely camping field, simple but perfectly adequate and clean facilities. Sam, the owner, is great, very friendly and informative. We did have to leave early as we had had a lot of rain, then a dry day with another full day of rain forecast and we wanted to pack our tent away dry. Just such a gorgeous place to relax, read, drink coffee, snooze, play board games. Simple pleasures. The calves in the next field were an absolute delight (I counted 8 of varying sizes). We could hear the Peacocks at Barlow Woodseats Hall, and lots of other birds, including Owls at night. We watched Swifts skim across the field. We had the place to ourselves most of the time too. We sampled the great food at the local pub The Royal Oak, and did try to go to Village Sunflowers but it was closed. Will hopefully get to Unthank Lane Farm again before too long, and maybe with better weather. It's just a 20 minute drive from home too!

A gently sloping meadow with 6 generous plots and 2 bell tents around the perimeter. There are 2 very clean 'festival' type portaloos, but used by a handful of people rather than thousands, a washing/washing up station with cold running water and a warm shower, from which you can take warm water for washing up. Also a drinking water supply and a variety of bins. So a lot less 'basic' than other, more expensive 'basic' sites we have stayed on. It is a working farm with associated farm activities and noises during the day, but these are not intrusive, and the whole experience is one of tranquility and immersion in nature. Until our grandkids arrived for a visit anyway! There is a good variety of birdlife around the farm, from wrens to buzzards, and different owls hunting in the night. There is a footpath from the farm entrance that runs about half a mile to the Royal Oak, which offers friendly service, good food and well kept beer at prices that will make southerners smile. We didn't try the walks from the site in different directions, but there are many options. The views are very pastoral and relaxing, and the icing on the cake of this gem of a site is Sam the owner, and her welcoming, laid back, friendly personality. We'll be back!

Fantastic little campsite. Open only in the summer months. Very spacious field with just a few pitches. Very quiet. Beautiful setting and lovely walks from the site. Simple facilities excellent for such a small site (one portaloo, wash station, and fantastic hot shower). Bell tents available for hire too. Peak District locations such as Chatsworth, NT Longshaw and Curbar edge just a few miles away.
