The friendly owners often have fresh eggs for sale, and there's direct access to excellent walking routes from the pitch.

It's a genuine walkers' paradise, with the moorland footpaths practically on your doorstep, though the remote location means you'll need to head into Holmfirth or beyond for shops and restaurants. What a lovely well kept camp site. Amazing place to be & has a real calm feel to it. Drive in from Buxton takes you on a real journey of wonder & awe. Site facilities are excellent & very clean (with air con I believe as it was 30c+ when I got here) Owners are very friendly & nice. I would definitely stay here again, & the wind generator is super quiet...I saw a review that moaned about it, definitely not an issue. All round super lovely place to stay. Had no problem getting the free WIFI on the furthest grass pitch too.

Read previous 1 star reviews about the owner before you book. Not allowed to have an 11 year old dog who is as tame as they come off their lead (doesn’t move more than 5 yards unless they need a poo) but the husband on the site lets his wife/Rottweiler Sue off the lead who just clearly loves hurling abuse at people. Kept everything clean and tidy, adhered to every rule possible, music off by 10 (was very quiet anyway) and in bed by 10.30 and the hurricane that is Sue still found a reason to tell us to get off the site and we are not welcome back. We were playing a big game of rounders with 4-8 year olds and they thought it would be a good idea to fire up the ride on lawn mower and try cut the grass around our game. A friend came to pick his wife up and as soon as he arrived Sue sniffed him out and marched over and clearly just wanted an argument. Avoid this site at all costs, unless the husband has took Sue on a dog walk and then you might be alright.

Booked into this site on a grass tent pitch with electric hookup after a nearby event. When we arrived it was getting dark and we were directed to the right side of the grass site. I erected our large family tent and we got inside out of the light rain to find everything sloping. When we set up our beds it was worse as you were constantly almost rolling off. That was disappointing. The opposite side of the grass is relatively flat so we had a rather uncomfortable stay. This was exacerbated by the wind turbine, when it kicked in it was loud and annoying, and certainly not good for anyone with sensory issues ( ADHD, AUTISM) Our quiet retreat whilst I was convalescing wasn't as quiet as we imagined. A very noisy group pitched behind us and laughed, joked and watched loud football all night, which coupled with the rolling meant little sleep, and then the owners began construction work at 0800 on the holiday Monday. ( September weekend) We decided we were leaving! POSITIVES: The site is reasonably priced, has fantastic views and is close to Holmfirth. It has on site hot dish washing, blue disposal, toilet and shower facilities. The stone built toilets have heating, (however when we were there it was freezing cold and this was switched off in the gents.) The owners are very friendly and there are fresh eggs available to buy which are delicious! 👌🏻 NOT SO POSITIVES: The sloping site, 😕 I would never pitch a tent on such a slope by choice it led to a very awkward uncomfortable stay ( we could have moved to a less sloped pitch, but the whole right side is on a hill, the whole site is really i suppose) The wind turbine is very noisy when operating. There is at least one Cockerel 🐓which crows loudly every morning, so no long lie ins, but.... delicious eggs 🥚🤷‍♂️. The partying footy fans behind us! 😤 (We might have just been unlucky, and they didn't stay long) The timing of the digging/construction ( again won't be everyday that this happens) SUMMARY: I would still recommend Whitegate as overall it's a good well appointed site. Some consideration for holidaymakers in their 60's and 90's who paid to relax and not to be woken by construction would have been nice, even a mention beforehand 😕( this spanned 2 days). SUGGESTION TO OWNERS: A footpath from the corner of the tent pitch area to the covered dish washing station/ toilet block would save people from having to walk all the way around and through the muddy vehicle entrance to reach the toilets etc. There is nothing in this corner to prevent it, and it wouldn't sacrifice pitch space.
