What visitors say
Great place to visit, it dates from the 13th century with many original features. You get a guided tour with one of the volunteers which is really good and they have a wealth of information to listen to. The gardens are small but set up as they would have been back in the day. The maze is good for the kids. Dogs are allowed but not in the house. Car park is free.

A very interesting visit, plan to spend at least a couple of hours. I would highly recommend using the free guided tour as the lady that we had today was a mine of information, far more than was on the information cards. An Adult ticket is £6.50 and is valid for you to revisit for a year, so is excellent value.

My father and I enjoyed our visit here. We both have an interest in history so it was fascinating to see. We had a tour with Karen, a volunteer who was very knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly enjoys what she does. The tour takes about 45 mins to 1 hour. The garden is beautiful and has a wide variety of contemporary plants and trees with a lot of information about the history of the plants and how they would have been used. Those with children may be interested to know that there isn't much in the way of activities. There is 1 room where they can dress up, but this is the only thing we saw. There is a nice cafe serving a limited menu, but has a lovely selection of homemade cakes. If you do the tour and explore the gardens, a visit here will typically take about 2 hours, and I believe the price is fair.

I brought a midi-coach of mature enthusiasts for a private visit. Other than my TomTom professional getting me lost in a new development & Google maps sending me on some unsuitable roads (homework advised} combined with M/A42 madness which lost us 1/2 hour, the guides did a wonderful job of showing them around. I explored on my own & found the herbs & fruit gardens + the wooded areas idyllic, taking me back to my youth. Inside the house was very interesting & homely, with appropriate furnishings. I didn't sample the cafe, but my party were very happy with it. Excellent value ‼️
