Glendaruel Caravan Park sits a short way up the Cowal peninsula, close enough to Bute that many guests treat the island as a day trip via the passenger and car ferry from Colintraive to Rhubodach, a crossing of only a few minutes. Set in 22 acres of mixed woodland where red squirrels are a regular sight, the park is a genuinely rural alternative to Bute's own more limited camping options, with room for caravans, motorhomes, campervans and small tents alongside holiday caravans to rent and simple camping bothies for those without their own equipment.
The park's reception doubles as an on-site shop for essentials, and its woodland setting includes a children's play area, making it a comfortable choice for families as well as for the walkers and cyclists who use it as an overnight stop on the Loch Lomond and Cowal Way. Dogs are welcome throughout, and the site's position on the Cowal Way and within easy reach of the Kyles of Bute means good walking straight from the pitch, without needing to move the car at all.
As a touring base it suits anyone wanting to combine a Bute visit with wider exploration of Argyll: Dunoon, Tighnabruaich and the rest of the Cowal peninsula are all within easy driving distance, and the park's woodland setting is a useful contrast to Bute's more open, coastal camping if you're staying for more than a few nights.
