Kingarth Hotel
Kingarth, south Bute near Kilchattan Bay · Inn
A country coaching inn dating from 1786 in Bute's quiet south, with ensuite rooms, a courtyard suite and a well-known bar and restaurant.
About Kingarth Hotel
The Kingarth Hotel has operated as a coaching inn since 1786 and remains, by its own description, the only true country inn on Bute. Its five ensuite rooms are split between the main hotel and a separate courtyard building, with the Courtyard Suite offering an interconnecting lounge for families or longer stays.
The attached Smiddy Bar and restaurant is well known across the island for food built on Scottish and local produce, alongside an extensive whisky and gin selection, and doubles as a venue for weddings and other functions in its private function room.
Set back from the coast near Kilchattan Bay, the hotel is a good base for exploring Bute's quieter southern end, including St Blane's Chapel and the start of the West Island Way, without the bustle of Rothesay.
