Family-run site on Trotternish, between the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing

About Staffin Caravan & Camping Site

Staffin sits on the Trotternish peninsula in the north-east of Skye, roughly midway between the island's two most famous landmarks. The Quiraing is a ten-minute drive up the hill road behind the site and the Old Man of Storr about twenty minutes south, which means you can be walking either of them before the coaches arrive. The ground slopes gently towards the sea, with views across the Sound of Raasay to Wester Ross, and the Trotternish escarpment rising behind.

The site has been run by the same family for more than fifty years. Around fifty touring pitches split between hardstanding with 16-amp hook-up and grass for tents. Free hot showers, laundry and drying, a campers' kitchen and chemical disposal are all well maintained, and a stone bothy gives shelter when the weather closes in. A small hot-food outlet operates in season. Staffin village—shop, petrol pump, a couple of cafes—is within walking distance, and Staffin Bay with its dinosaur footprints is a short stroll away. Dogs are welcome on a lead, and walks leave straight from the gate.

The site opens early April to late September, with tent pitches available from late April once the ground has dried. Book ahead for July and August, when Trotternish is at its busiest.

An odd review I know. The hosts were brilliant and very helpful. We arrived our tent snapped and leaked everywhere. It's Sunday no shops open or nearby but the hosts gave us 2 small tents to help us. One pole snapped and the other was holding on for dear life 😂 we had driven 5 and a half hours but decided we had to head home. The campsite was in a great location for dinosaur footprints etc and the facilities were good alongside great hosts. It was also very reasonable priced. We will definitely be back, thank you hosts for what you did and tried to do we appreciate it.

A lovely site over looking the sea, toilet and shower block are not the best, 1 pound charged for 3 minutes in the shower. You've got to go some to get yourself washed and rinsed off in 3 minutes. 😧

Easiest 5 star review ever given! Perfect grass pitch and a wonderful location. Very easy to reach the well known hikes such as Storr and Quiraing. The facilities were okay, not the best, but definitely not the worse. What made this stay 5 star worthy was the staff (Bear and Mel in particular). As two un-experienced campers we decided to call Staffin to see if we could check in two nights prior to our booking, this due to very bad weather in the south where we were supposed to check-in. They squeezed us in and helped us to check if our tent was properly pitched. Then when I had nasty fall on the pebbles, Bear and Mel provided perfect help and kept checking in how I felt the next few days. Thanks again for this and the nice talks! Definitely worth coming back some day :)
