About Duisdale House Hotel
Duisdale House was built in 1860 as a private mansion and has spent much of the last half-century as a hotel. It stands above the shoreline of the Sound of Sleat looking east towards the Knoydart hills on the mainland, in gardens that were laid out when the house was new and are still mature enough to shelter it from the worst of the weather.
The interiors take the country-house bones and push them somewhere bolder — deep colours, statement wallpapers, four-posters and roll-top baths in the larger rooms. There are seventeen bedrooms across the house and a garden wing, and two hot tubs on the lawn that make sense of a Skye evening in almost any conditions. The restaurant holds two AA rosettes and cooks a daily-changing menu built on island seafood, Highland meat and produce from the kitchen garden.
The hotel is part of the Sonas Collection alongside sister properties Toravaig and Skeabost, and shares their classic yacht, which takes guests out on day sails from Armadale in the summer months. That, plus the sheltered woodland setting and the short hop to the Mallaig ferry, makes Sleat feel like a distinct holiday rather than a base for landmark-ticking. The Cuillin are an hour north; the Quiraing rather more.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The hotel has a upkept heritage feel in the interior. Our room was cute, cosy and inviting. The breakfast was fantastic. The standout though are the staff. The concierge was so attentive and everyone was really friendly. You will be taking your luggage up stairs and you are at the whim of the noise your neighbours make, but would I stay again? In a heartbeat. What a fantastic memory for us from the Isle of Skye

Cannot recommend this hotel enough! If you cannot stay here, book a dinner, as the food and service are exceptional. It’s a great base location for Skye, but remote enough to feel like we were in a tiny town. Service from check in to the bar and table service were superb. Bravo for maintaining a hotel that feels welcoming yet very upscale at the same time.

I have to share how amazing Vishnu is. We had multiple delayed flights from Phoenix, Arizona to Inverness. After 24 hours of flying we finally arrived 12 hours later than expected. We had a 2 hour drive to Duisdale and weren’t going to make it until 11:30pm. Check-in ends at 11pm. We called in. Vishnu answered and said he’d wait up for us. When we showed up he guided us to our cottage. The cottage was lovely. Great bed, warmed towels, great smelling shampoo and soap, cozy seating area with tv. This was our first time sleeping in a bed for a while so we slept in. Breakfast as ending at 10am, so Vishnu (who was bright eyed and bushy tailed after staying up late for us the night before) let us order food from the dining room, which Mia hand delivered to our cottage. I’m really grateful for Vishnu and Mia. They went above and beyond. Our first night ever in Scotland was unforgettable because of them.

I went for the single room £125, The bathroom is across the hall, so you’ve lock the room each time you go to your bathroom, there’s no window in the bedroom, A very simple modification and the hall could be removed, The decor within the main house is very modern tack. Evening meal, I got cod on a bed of asparagus and it was tasteless, Breakfast, asked for full breakfast with scrambled eggs and got fried eggs, Bar, no beers/lagers on draft, only bottled beer. Overall, it would take so little to make this a great stop, but as it is I definitely would not stay here again
