King's Lynn and West Norfolk

Photo: The Gatehouse

The Old Gatehouse started life as a railway cottage and retains character throughout—exposed brick and Norfolk stone sit alongside contemporary comfort. You get four bedrooms (all with zip-and-link beds that split into singles), two bathrooms, and enough communal space to avoid bumping into each other. There are two separate living rooms, each with a wood burner or smart TV, plus a conservatory opening onto decking. The kitchen is equipped for cooking from scratch, with an electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher and coffee machine. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and WiFi are included; one dog stays free.

Outside, a lawned garden runs to the side with a patio and covered decked area complete with built-in bar and barbecue. There's parking for three cars off-street, with room for more on the road. The property sleeps 8 and is yours alone—no other guests, no pub downstairs. A highchair and stairgate are available for families with young children. One step leads into the garden. Heacham beach, regarded locally as one of the best in the area, is within reach; the Travelodge Kings Lynn is nearby if you need a reference point. Smoking is not permitted inside.

Wow wow wow what can I say drove up from bury st Edmunds for a nice breakfast and a day in the town. The place it's self is lovely and clean it had a really warm feel when you walked in. The lady behind the bar Kathryn was very warm welcoming and had a smile whilst serving us. We ordered a breakfast, Alina the chef was cooking, and wow what can I say it was lovely and hot the plate was hot and it was presented on the plate beautifully I enjoyed every bit of my breakfast could not fault it. Madi came over to ask if our food was ok it went along way to be asked if everything was ok. The staff take pride in there work and I can tell they make there customers feel warm and welcome. I would definitely come here again and I would recommend others.

Having used the Milton Arms in Cambridge, for many years until it recently closed its doors, my wife and I decided to try the Gatehouse in Kings Lynn. From the moment we stepped in we were immediately greeted with a friendly smile from Kathryn and we spoke briefly before ordering our breakfasts. We sat down and in no time our food was out to us. The Chef Alina very clearly takes pride in her work as the food was very well presented and was piping hot and cook to our liking (we asked for the meat well done). Then no more than 5 mins later we were approached by Madi to ask if everything was ok with our food and that went a long way with us because not many places we go to actually ask us. So that was really nice of her to do that. Again it shows that all the staff at the Gatehouse clearly take pride in what they do and we will for sure be returning in the future.

Took the family and friends for a kids birthday meal. We had a table of 9 on a Sunday afternoon. If you are looking for fine dining then this isn't for you but if you are after a budget friendly meal thats well cooked and presented then give it a try. We had a selection of burgers for the kids, roast dinners, curries and I had a pie. For the price we couldn't fault the place. Staff were fantastic and very helpful. The food was all hot and arrived in an extremely good time considering we were a large table. Ice cold drinks and very reasonably priced. Portions were a good size with plenty of condiments to help ourselves to. The whole setting was relaxed and spotless. Even a nice play area for the kids to burn some energy. 9 of us having main meals drinks and desserts including the big candy mania for the kids to share. Just short of £150 . Overall spot on and will be returning.. Cheers guys

Strange atmosphere. It was morning though. Paper straws split when drinking milkshake. Breakfast was decent. They had additional black pudding which is a plus.
