About Wildscapes Retreat and Campsite

Tucked beneath the Howgill Fells on a working sheep farm, Wildscapes Retreat occupies a genuinely off-grid meadow laced with a gentle stream and remarkable dark skies. There's no mains electricity, and facilities are deliberately low-key—compost toilets, drinking water, firepits provided—but campers rave about how clean everything is kept and how relaxed the atmosphere feels. No curfew means you can nurse a campfire and chat late into the evening, and the welcoming owners strike just the right balance between helpful and unobtrusive.

Ravenstonedale, a fifteen-minute walk down the lane, has two excellent pubs for real ale and hearty meals, while Kirkby Stephen (ten minutes by car) offers independent shops and cafés before you head out to waterfalls, stone circles or the wild-swimming spots at Wain Wath Force. Ullswater lies thirty-five minutes west, so you're comfortably placed for Lake District forays without the tourist crush. It's the kind of spot where you remember what camping used to feel like—simple, peaceful, genuinely wild.

Lovely campsite, good pitch, and views of the dales around. Arrived and settled in right away, fire pit and logs were £10. Toilets were very clean, and kitchen sink was clean, drinkable water and they provided soap/washing up liquid and sponges!! Overall great experience for one night!!!

We had such a lovely stay at Wildscapes Retreat. Suzie, was so friendly, chatty and helpful – she really made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We stayed in the bell tents which were really spacious, super comfy and cosy, and gave us loads of room. The campsite itself had everything we needed and it was just a really nice place to relax, wind down and enjoy some proper downtime. What we really liked was how chilled Suzie was, she just let us get on with things and enjoy the campsite how we wanted, which made it feel really easy-going. I’d definitely recommend this place for all ages and any type of group – we had such a good time and would happily come back again.

Just back from a Yoga Retreat weekend. Feeling refreshed and relaxed. Beautiful area, scenery and the bell tents were very cosy. The studio welcoming and spacious. Yoga sessions are varied, and suitable for a beginner or an experienced person. Lots of beautiful walks in the area too. Suzie and Sam were perfect hosts.., Love to go back.

Just been to this lovely campsite with a few friends and we had an amazing time. One of the owners Suzie was a great help to us and always helped us with the wood supply when we needed it. Super friendly atmosphere and clean facilities as well. Stunning views and great location. Would definitely go again :)
