Hotels in Matlock Bath
8 handpicked places to stay
Where to stay in Matlock Bath depends largely on whether you want to be in the thick of the promenade or slightly above it. The Parade and the streets immediately around it put you within a short walk of the railway station, the aquarium, boat hire and the chip shops that give the village much of its character, and several of the best-known hotels, including converted Victorian villas, sit directly on this stretch or a few minutes up the hillside. This is the natural choice for anyone without a car, or for a short break built around walking the gorge and the Heights of Abraham without needing to drive anywhere in between.
Properties climbing the hillside above the village, towards North Parade and the approach to the Heights of Abraham cable car, tend to offer better views over the gorge and a quieter night's sleep away from summer weekend traffic on the A6, at the cost of a steeper walk back down after dinner. A little further afield, Matlock town, barely a mile north, and Cromford, about two miles south, both sit within the same stretch of the Derwent Valley and offer a wider spread of guest houses and country hotels, useful for visitors who want more choice or a slightly more rural setting while remaining a short drive or bus ride from Matlock Bath itself.
The eight properties below span this whole stretch of the valley, from a historic spa hotel with its own spring-fed lido, through boutique Victorian conversions and a village coaching inn, to family-run guest houses offering a simpler, more personal stay. Whichever you choose, book ahead for summer weekends and for the autumn Illuminations, when the village's limited supply of rooms fills quickly.
