La Belle Roulotte is a traditional Romani caravan, thoughtfully restored and set on the grounds of South Down Lodges near Hassocks. The single bedroom contains a double bed (4ft 6in), and there's a pull-out single sofa bed in the open-plan living area, making space for three guests. You have your own shower room with cubicle shower, a kitchen with electric cooking facilities, and a living and dining space—no television, but the focus here is on the landscape beyond rather than screens indoors. Electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are included; there's parking for two cars on site.

The caravan sits within the grounds shared by other properties, with direct access to the South Downs countryside. Hassocks is a practical base for walking and cycling, with the South Downs Way within reach and numerous trails threading through rolling hills and farmland. Ditchling and Hurstpierpoint are nearby villages with independent cafés, shops and traditional pubs. Brighton is reachable by train in fifteen minutes if you want a day out. The property is no-smoking throughout.

We chose South Down Lodges near Hassocks as they were close to some of the places on the Downs we wanted to walk. Very impressed with the Lodges. Loved the digital lock gate to get in and out. The Lodges were spacious, clean and well stocked with crockery and utensils plus complimentary tea and coffee etc. Could do with a tray to take our cuppas outside. Modern bath and shower rooms with luxury toiletries. The large decking overlooked a grassy area and had table, chairs, parasol and loungers. We were entertained by a family of foxes every night which was lovely to watch. We could hear the trains but they were not intrusive. It was a heatwave whilst we were there which was a shame as we didn't get to walk all we wanted but Cissbury Hill and Newtimber Hill walks were very pretty. WWT Arundel and RSPB Pulborough Brooks are worth a visit if you like nature. Lewes is great for shopping but a nightmare to park. South Downs Garden Centre next door is very handy and there was a courtesy 10% off food voucher left for us to use. Hassocks is a short walk with coffee shops etc and a very good vintage shop amongst others to browse. I would thoroughly recommend South Downs Lodges and will return . Its just a shame we have to go on the M25 to get there.

Stayed here several times and it's always spotlessly clean. The whole place including the grounds are immaculate. Will certainly return and would recommend this place to everyone.

Have stayed at Willow lodge a number of times and have two more stays booked for this year. The lodge is immaculate, it's welcoming and comfortable. The covered hot tub is a great addition as it can be used in any weather. Thoroughly recommend it. 😊

Highly recommend a stay at South Down Lodges! The most peaceful and beautiful spot to spend a long weekend or more. The lodges themselves are modern, very comfortable and well equipped. Access to the site is simple and convenient. While dogs need to remain on a lead within the site, there’s plenty of space to take them for a short walk or run around. Next door to the site is a fantastic garden centre with restaurant and farm shop, you’ll not need to go much further to stock up! We will most certainly be back.
