Tucked into a spacious nine-acre meadow on the National Trust's Holnicote Estate, Porlock Vale Campsite offers genuine peace in working farmland within Exmoor National Park. Impressive oaks dot the field, while spectacular views stretch towards North Hill, Selworthy Forest and Grabbist Hill. Behind rises Dunkery Commons moorland, easily reached via the farm's bridleway leading to Webber's Post and Dunkery Beacon. Wildlife abounds - buzzards circle overhead, and if you're fortunate you might spot wild red deer, foxes or even beavers and water voles. The National Trust's rewilding projects here make it particularly fascinating for anyone interested in nature recovery and sustainable farming.
The site's green ethos extends to composting loos, renewable energy and strict quiet hours after 10pm to respect the wildlife and farm animals. Campfires and barbecues are welcomed. Bossington Beach lies 10 minutes' drive away, Porlock Weir 15 minutes. Facilities are intentionally simple - some reviewers note the basic amenities - but that's rather the point at this adults-only, back-to-nature spot where the field reverts to meadow once the season ends.

This site was amazing, Dawn was an absolute delight, so helpful and welcoming and extremely conscious we had a comfortable stay. Such a beautiful location, peace and tranquility and the amazement of the view just made the long evening’s relaxing with a drink that made this special. We stayed here as part of our South West Coastal Path Trek, great location. Superb facilities and it’s just right.

Had the most amazing trip to Porlock Vale Campsite! The campsite was perfect, set on a quiet field with amazing views of the surrounding area and the Bristol Channel! It was so picturesque and peaceful. Toilet and shower facilities were great. Dawn was so friendly, welcoming and super helpful. She had two gorgeous dogs Mia and Rosie who we all adored! Thank you Dawn for a perfect stay at your campsite, we’ll be recommending to everyone!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Porlock Vale Campsite. If you're looking for a truly quiet and peaceful countryside location, this is the perfect spot. We felt so relaxed here. The site owner, Dawn, was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which really added to our lovely experience. We would definitely recommend approaching the campsite via Luccombe village and then heading towards Huntscott. The lane from Blackford is very narrow, and the route through Luccombe is much more manageable.

Absolutely gorgeous views to wake up to! Dawn is a fantastic host thinking of all the little things. Facilities are fab with a proper toilet and shower. Dog friendly (and Mia and Rosie the herding dogs are wonderful too!). So tranquil and peaceful. As close to wild camping as you can get but with some creature comforts. Thank you Dawn for an excellent stay.
