What visitors say
Stunning arboretum, well maintained and easy to walk around using the free map provided. We spent a lovely couple of hours walking our dogs, visiting the cafe, well stocked shop and garden centre. The garden centre would be worth a visit in its own - a wonderful choice of well looked after plants, well laid out and with helpful staff - reasonably priced too.

I have been here a few times over the years and love the changing seasons. This is popular location particularly at weekends/ holidays when the weather is fine - I'd highly recommend booking in advance, not essential but helps on busy days. The arboretum is set down a long tarmac drive with passing places leading to a large car park comprising tarmac, gravel and grass areas, all included in the price. The main facilities are set in a walled area leading to the entrance, toilets, restaurant, plant shop and outside eating area. Good choice of food and price with a reasonable price point for the area. Once you're through the entrance it is a short walk to the start of the gardens. The site is set on a moderately steep hill and is laid with paths that are surfaced in the main with secondary paths gravel or grass. Disabled access is pretty good, disabled parking near the entrance, and a number of wheelchair users and mobility scooters were seen in the woodland. On this spring day the arboretum was showing lovely cherry and magnolia blossom and a variety of bulbs - a bit to early for the bluebells. The conifers and statement large deciduous trees provide the overall structure interspersed with smaller trees including acres, cherry and some wollemi pines. There are a few streams feeding ponds across the site, keeping some of the damp loving plants happy. It is a good sized arboretum for the ticket price and you can go in and out repeatedly during the day on the same ticket. The was an Easter trail across the site which looked very popular with families.

We had a lovely day out at Batsford Arboretum and it was very dog friendly in all areas providing you have a short lead. We began our visit in the cafe where the food was a bit average sadly but the cafe had lovely views from the window seats and terrace. We then began our walk around the gardens which appeared bigger on the map provided but it only took us just over an hour to walk the loop. Not too busy and very well kept gardens with some interesting information points along the way.
