Gables Retreats - The Retreat

Couples after a quieter break, small families, or friends sharing will find The Retreat works well. The ground floor is open-plan living and kitchen in one; a sofa bed doubles as extra sleeping space, and patio doors lead to an enclosed garden with seating. The first floor holds a kingsize bedroom with an ensuite shower room. Four guests can eat comfortably at different points—two at the breakfast bar, two more at a separate table—or take meals outside. Bike storage is on site, and parking fits two cars.

Everything essential is covered: bed linen, towels, electricity and wifi are included. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, and there's a washing machine if you need one. One well-behaved pet stays free. The village of Kirklington sits quiet and rural, with walking and cycling routes through the surrounding countryside. Newark Castle is a short drive away, and the National Civil War Centre is also nearby. No smoking indoors.
