About The Brambles
The Brambles, on Mill Road in Annalong a short drive south of Newcastle, is the renamed and refurbished former Glassdrumman Lodge, bought in December 2023 and rebuilt as an exclusive-use retreat. The main house sleeps up to sixteen across eight bedrooms, with a separate three-bedroom cottage, The Briers, available alongside it for larger groups.
Inside, the house runs to a full kitchen, a sixteen-seat dining room, a bar and a library, with a hot tub and grounds outside. It is let as a whole property rather than by the room, making it better suited to family gatherings, golf groups or celebrations than a standard hotel stay.
Its position in the Mourne foothills near Annalong puts it within easy reach of the southern end of the Mourne Wall and the coast road into Newcastle, Kilkeel and Royal County Down.

I booked a room last minute, and our experience couldn’t have been better. Darren was very attentive through messages, we received recommendations and the directions to get there. The room is fabulous, exactly as the images and more. The place was recently renovated and it is warm and comfortable. I highly recommend, specially if you are travelling with pets.

AVOID- I don’t usually leave reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I felt I had to say something. The place looked great on Instagram and TikTok, but the reality was very different. One hot tub was dirty, the other wouldn’t heat, and the host was no help at all — just blamed previous guests and took no responsibility. And unfortunately, that was just one of several issues we ran into. For the price and the way it’s advertised, this place seriously underdelivers. I wouldn’t recommend it.

We stayed a few weeks ago - 17 of us..the house is fantastic - in a great spot witb beautiful views. All rooms were brilliant and the host got straight back to us with any questions we had.. including booking us a bus to go to a restaurant in Newcastle. I would highly recommend the Brambles!
