Hotels in Newhaven

Newhaven itself has no hotels – it is little more than a road junction and a historic coaching inn on the high limestone plateau of the White Peak, roughly halfway between Buxton and Ashbourne. For proper hotel accommodation, most visitors base themselves in one of the nearby Peak District towns and drive or cycle in for the day. Buxton, about 20 minutes away, is the largest nearby town and has the widest range of hotels, from Georgian townhouse guesthouses to larger chain options, along with its own attractions including the Buxton Opera House and the Pavilion Gardens. Bakewell, a similar distance in the other direction, has a good selection of inns and small hotels within walking distance of its market square and the River Wye, and makes a good base for visiting Chatsworth House. Ashbourne, at the southern end of the Tissington Trail, also has a reasonable choice of hotels and inns in a handsome Georgian market town setting.

Whichever base is chosen, the appeal of staying near Newhaven is really about access to the landscape rather than the accommodation itself: the High Peak Trail passes within a mile of the hamlet and the Tissington Trail starts nearby at Hartington, so a hotel in Buxton, Bakewell or Ashbourne puts walkers and cyclists within easy reach of some of the best traffic-free routes in the Peak District, as well as classic sights such as Dovedale, Arbor Low and Chatsworth House.
