About Byfords
Byfords occupies what is thought to be the oldest building in Holt, a Grade II listed flint and brick property that survived the fire which destroyed much of the town in 1708. It describes itself as a posh B&B, and the description is fair: it is a bed and breakfast in structure, with a cafe, delicatessen and restaurant filling the ground floor and 16 bedrooms above and behind. It sits in the middle of Holt, a Georgian market town that has become the shopping centre of the north Norfolk coast.
Bedrooms are individually decorated, with beams, uneven floors and roll-top or deep baths in several, along with underfloor heating, good linen and modern showers. Sizes vary from cosy doubles to family rooms and larger suites, and there are self-catering apartments nearby for guests who want more space or a longer stay. Rates include breakfast in the cafe, which runs to a full Norfolk grill, smoked fish and its own baking.

Booked high tea for my dads birthday after reading many glowing reviews of Byfords and were not disappointed. We received a warm welcome on arrival and were promptly seated in a comfortable booth. Our server, Joe, was polite and attentive (without hovering) and we were soon served our delicious tea. Loose leaf tea and cafetiere coffee with a selection of fresh sandwiches, in house baked warm sausage roll, quiche, scotch egg & scones (cheese & fruit) along with a wonderful selection of cakes. Everything was delicious and the offer of top up sandwiches and drinks is a lovely touch. I would definitely recommend.

Enquired about booking a table for 14 motorcyclists on Sunday morning, for mid-day. Thought it was unlikely but was told it was not a problem. We arrived 2 hours later to find we had been given the entire cellar room. The waitress was extremely efficient in taking orders, drinks first then mains. Bottles of water and glasses appeared on the table. Very impressed. We were expecting a bit of delay in getting our orders but the meals arrived quickly and all together. The food was excellent and the service outstanding. Four of us had visited before and had recommended Byfords. I'm sure there are now ten more people who will return and will spread the word. Thank you Byfords for a making our visit so pleasant.

Booked a weekend stay for my husbands Christmas present. We had visited many years ago and always promised ourselves we would stay. I cannot fault our stay. Every single member of staff we encountered was personable, attentive and genuinely cared about the service they were providing. The portions of food were abundant and the food was well prepared and presented. We stayed in room four on the first floor and it was beautifully presented and well equipped. We loved the jar for night cookies shaped like half moons. Can’t wait to return.

Had a lovely meal here over the bank holiday weekend. We booked and had the “store platter” and seafood platter and the kids had halloumi wrap and tomato pizza. All the food was delicious, well prepared and appeared to be all home made sauces and chutneys etc. The tomato sauce on the pizza was really good as was the chutney. The platters were both great and surprisingly filling. It didn’t mention anything was home made on the menu so we were surprised how good it all was. The restaurant & hotel is very trendy inside and we think it looks a great place to stay too. Service was good and the atmosphere was relaxed. Prices aren’t the cheapest but good value for the quality of the food you get. Thanks 😊
