Hotels in North Somercotes

North Somercotes has a small but useful spread of places to stay, from period bed and breakfasts to self-catering cottages tucked among the village's farms and lanes. The Old Manor House, a reputedly 300-year-old property close to the centre, is one of the longer-established options, and there are further B&Bs and guest houses scattered around the parish and in nearby villages such as Marshchapel and Saltfleet. Rooms tend to be simple, comfortable and reasonably priced rather than luxurious, which suits the village's low-key, working character. Breakfasts are usually included and often make a feature of local produce, given the surrounding farmland.

Because North Somercotes itself is small, visitors wanting more choice of hotels, restaurants and evening entertainment often base themselves a little further afield in Louth, a handsome Georgian market town about ten miles inland with a wider range of accommodation, or in Mablethorpe on the coast to the north, which has seafront hotels and holiday apartments geared towards traditional seaside breaks. Cleethorpes, at the northern end of the coast road, offers a similar level of choice with the added draw of its long promenade and pier.

Whichever base is chosen, North Somercotes and Donna Nook are within easy day-trip reach, and the flat, well-signed coast road makes getting between villages straightforward. Booking ahead is particularly worthwhile during the autumn seal season, when the Donna Nook reserve draws a noticeable spike in day visitors to the wider area and the handful of local rooms can fill up quickly.
