Shamrock Shepherds Huts - The Rams Rest

North Yorkshire

Flamingo Land Theme Park sits next door, Pickering and its steam railway are a short drive away, and Dalby Forest—home to Go Ape and miles of trails—is fifteen minutes by car. The North Yorkshire Moors National Park spreads across the landscape for exploring on foot or by bike, while Whitby's clifftop abbey and Malton's food scene are worth the journey. Castle Howard is also within reach for a day out. The Rams Rest itself is a single-bedroom shepherds hut built on site, sleeping two in a double bed and offering everything needed for a self-contained stay: a kitchen with electric hob and microwave, a shower room, and heating throughout. Wifi and parking for two cars are on hand.

The hut is arranged on one level and opens onto a raised deck with garden furniture and a two-person hot tub. Inside, the living space combines sleeping, eating and cooking areas with a television in both the bedroom and the main room. Bed linen, towels and the essentials—electricity, heating, wifi—are included. The village of Kirby Misperton is within walking distance for a pub meal. No smoking is permitted in the property, and it is for adults only.

Cyril Dougherty of Shamrock Sheds made a bike shed exactly to the measurements specified for two large e-bikes, taking advantage of his design skills, the quality of his timber and the excellence of his workmanship. The bikes and a few more things besides are now kept safe and dry adjacent to our holiday home in North Yorkshire, a great addition to our cycling in country which is also designed for it. Sadly Cyril’s after-sales service proved to be non-existent. When we phoned to tell him that the right-hand door of the bike shed had warped at the bottom corner he asked us to email a photograph of it. This we did, followed by another phone call which was not answered. We have given up expecting a reply after several months. Be warned, Shamrock Sheds are not cheap but they offer no guarantee and, in our experience, no after-sales customer service.
