Families and larger groups will find The Swiss Cottage works well for a few days away. The three bedrooms—a kingsize, a double under the eaves, and a twin—sleep six, with a cot and highchair available if needed. Two bathrooms mean the morning routine is less of a negotiation: one has a bath and separate shower, the other a walk-in cubicle. Downstairs, the open-plan living space centres on an open fire, with the kitchen beyond equipped for proper cooking rather than heating tins.

The property sits in Pickering, within reach of the North York Moors National Park. A pub is within a mile's walk. Electricity, wi-fi, bed linen and towels are included; the initial fuel for the fire comes with it, and the rest you can buy locally. An enclosed back garden has a summerhouse and seating areas—useful if the weather turns, or just for an afternoon away from the living room. Dogs stay free and the owner provides bowls and towels. Smoking is not permitted inside.
