Gilsland Annexe

Northumberland

Photo: Google Maps

Gilsland Annexe is a self-contained annexe sleeping two, with everything needed for independent holidays already in place. The kitchen is fully fitted for cooking—hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine mean you can manage a week or a weekend without constraint. Wi-Fi keeps you connected, bed linen and towels are provided, and heating and electricity are covered in the rate. The bedroom has a king-size bed that converts to twin singles if preferred, and there's a bathroom with shower, living space with TV and sofa, and a dining area.

The annexe sits in Gilsland village, on the Cumbria–Northumberland border, with its own parking. The village has a café serving cakes and sandwiches, and two pubs within walking distance, one serving food. Hadrian's Wall is minutes away—the milecastle ruins and a waterfall are close by. Further afield lie Roman forts, castles and more substantial towns along the Wall's stretch. The property suits walkers and those interested in Roman history, though the peaceful rural setting works equally well for anyone wanting a quiet retreat. No smoking is permitted indoors.
