Walk through the door of The Old Mill and you're met with an open-plan living space on the first floor—living area with woodburner and TV, dining space, and kitchen all flowing together. Below, on the ground floor, are two bedrooms (one with a zip-and-link king that can split into singles, one with a king bed) and a bathroom with both bath and separate shower. The conversion has kept the character of this 19th-century stone mill building while delivering contemporary comfort: there's underfloor heating throughout, a dishwasher and washer-dryer in the kitchen, and wifi wherever you need it. Bed linen, towels and the initial logs for the woodburner are all provided. The property is detached, with private parking for four cars and an electric charging point if needed.
Positioned within the Northumberland National Park, The Old Mill sits on the branch of the Routing Burn, near the medieval settlement earthworks of East Newtown and looking out towards the Simonside Hills. From the door, footpaths lead to Newtown Park and Forestry Commission walks; Simonside summit itself is accessible from here, as is St Oswald's Way nearby at Lordenshaws. Rothbury village, a few miles down the Coquet valley, has pubs, cafes, galleries and a leisure centre. The surrounding countryside is genuinely quiet, and this is a genuine base for exploring the northern Pennines and valley walks rather than a retreat from them. Note: there are six steps down to the grassed mill banks and stream.

A lovely, warm and cosy cottage in a beautiful setting. Alan and Sue very friendly. Ideal place for exploring the hills and the coast. Recommend Boulmer Beach if you like birdwatching. Enjoyed sitting near the window on a morning with my cuppa watching the array of birds in the little tree outside. Definitely coming back.
