Pollachar Inn

Pollachar, South Uist · Inn

A whitewashed eighteenth-century coaching inn at South Uist's southern tip, overlooking Barra across the sound.

About Pollachar Inn

Pollachar Inn is an eighteenth-century whitewashed coaching inn standing at the southern tip of South Uist, looking out across the sound to Barra and Eriskay, with the ferry slip to Eriskay only a short drive away. It is reputed to be one of the oldest licensed premises in the Outer Hebrides.

Bedrooms are modest and traditionally furnished, several with sea views, and the inn's bar and restaurant are a genuine local gathering point as well as a stop for visitors, serving straightforward dishes built around local seafood and beef.

Its position makes it a convenient overnight stop for anyone travelling the causeway route between the Uists and Barra, close to the beaches and machair of South Uist and within easy reach of the short ferry crossing to Eriskay and onward to Barra.
