Wherever you choose to stay, Oxhill's position just off the A422 means most options within a 15-20 minute drive put you within easy reach of Edgehill, Upton House, Compton Verney and the wider Warwickshire countryside, while still returning you to a genuinely rural, unhurried corner of the county each evening.

Oxhill's own charms are modest, but it sits within easy reach of some excellent days out across south Warwickshire and the Cotswold fringe.

• Upton House and Gardens — A National Trust property just under three miles away on Edgehill, with a notable art collection, terraced gardens and views across the battlefield landscape below.
• Edgehill — Site of the first major battle of the English Civil War in October 1642, with waymarked walks along the ridge and long views over the Warwickshire plain.

• Warwick Castle — A well-known medieval castle above the River Avon, roughly 13 miles north, popular with families.

It is good walking country in fair weather, with footpaths linking villages, farms and historic sites such as Upton House. Conditions are typically drier than in upland Britain, but the clay-heavy soils common in this part of Warwickshire can turn heavy and muddy after rain, so a pitch with good drainage matters more here than elsewhere.

Spring through early autumn is the most comfortable window for camping, with April to September offering the best combination of weather and daylight for exploring the surrounding countryside and attractions. Summer weekends coincide with the main season for nearby visitor sites such as Compton Verney and Upton House, so booking ahead is sensible. Winter camping is possible but exposed, with short days and a real chance of cold, wet ground.
