About Low Scarside
This small, peaceful paddock site near Bampton delivers an appealingly simple Lake District camping experience. Tucked into the Askham and Lowther Valley, Low Scarside provides just a handful of non-electric grass pitches, each with its own fire pit and views across the fells. Facilities are intentionally pared back – a portable toilet, washing-up area and water tap – but guests consistently praise how spotlessly maintained everything is, plus thoughtful touches like a fridge, freezer and secure charging lockers.
What the site lacks in mod cons it more than makes up for in location. Direct footpath access means you can set off straight from your pitch onto the Knipe Scar trail or down to nearby wild-swimming spots on the River Lowther. Bampton village, a pleasant 40-minute stroll away, has a well-regarded community pub serving excellent food and beer, while Askham's historic inn sits beneath the ruins of Lowther Castle. The friendly owners clearly know their patch and happily share recommendations for the valley's pubs, trails and swimming holes.

What visitors say
This campsite has officially set the precedence for what every other campsite should be like. The campsite itself is beautiful with serene views of the hills and the occasional hello from the cattle and sheep grazing next door. This was our first camping trip as a family with myself, my partner, our eleven month old baby and our 6 year old rescue dog and we all had the most amazing time. It was so quiet and peaceful here, you can hardly hear your neighbours even if they have pitched close by. The facilities are exceptional! The showers were always clean and the water warm with good pressure. Large showers, big enough to fit our XL collapsible baby bath with plenty of space around it. The toilets were also always clean and never smelled, I don't know what kind of magic they use for the toilets but if every campsite could build toilets like this we would all be living a dream. The washing up space is so thoughtful and the lockers with plug sockets to charge your electrics is genius. There are no extra charges for any of the facilities, which is greatly appreciated and underrated! And to top it all off, Magnus and Anna are the most gracious of hosts exuding warmth, kindness, and a genuine sense of care and consideration for each camper onsite—you feel like you're being welcomed home. The best campsite we've ever been to, thank you! We will be back!

Firstly this place deserves a 6th star. Camping as it should be, peaceful, relaxing and great facilities. Low Greenside Farm is in a beautiful location with spectacular views all around, Magnus and Anna were friendly, helpful and obviously very passionate about their business. The campsite is a beautiful blend of back to nature and practical spaces. The toilets, showers and washing facilities are clean, modern and well maintained. Each pitch has a fire pit included with wood and a cooking grill available from the site, I enjoyed a lovely sunset BBQ. Highly recommended, I will be returning.

** This is the campsite to visit ** Just got home after a fantastic weekend here. Honestly this place is brilliant. It’s a nice quiet place. The pitches are nicely spaced out plenty of room. The views are fantastic with lots of walks todo. The owner has thought of everything from phone charger lockers, proper recycling so metal cans, cardboard/paper, food waste, plastic etc, out door electric point for air beds etc I love how green the place is and the level of recycling they go too. The wheel Barrows to get stuff from the car to your pitch it’s all part of the adventure it’s great! The showers are brilliant a proper shower not just a press button that goes off every few seconds. Fantastic washing up facilities. Freezer for ice blocks. There is a little cake stand with an honestly box the cakes are made by Brownie Bakes 110% try one these cakes are Devine. Pizza on Saturday night was really nice. I will definitely be booking to stay here again in the not too distant future. Thank you
