About Aspen Guest House
A welcome cup of tea or coffee in your room is part of the deal at Aspen Guest House, and with pubs, bars and restaurants all close by on Merchant Street in Peterhead, guests are never far from a proper meal out. The guest house itself keeps things simple and comfortable rather than offering its own dining room, leaving the local eateries to do the honours.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and free WiFi, and family rooms are available for those travelling with children. There's a garden for some fresh air and 24 hour reception for flexible arrivals and departures. It's worth noting that no parking is available on site, so anyone arriving by car should plan accordingly.
Peterhead's surroundings suit an active stay, with golf, fishing, cycling and walking all on the doorstep, plus entertainment nearby for evenings out. It's a straightforward, well-placed base for exploring Aberdeenshire without unnecessary frills.
What guests say
Stay here yearly for Scottish week. By far the best accommodation in this area, host is lovely, so helpful and quick to respond. Room is huge and has a large fridge which comes in very handy. Couple small things which could be fixed-the TV sometimes goes static and loses signal and the drawers are partly broken so need to be careful when pulling them out. Overall it’s great value for money and right in the centre.

It was all very straightforward and as expected. Was good value at £50 for a double room for the night. Clean and functional rather than luxurious. A King sized bed (rather than a double), a bigger shower and better lighting would improve things. No breakfast options but are really close to centre of town.

Lovely room spacious and comfortable. Our only contact with our host was via the front door intercom, but there is a phone number on the front door to contact if you have a problem. Your key is left on the bureau at the front door on top of a piece of paper with your name. We had a lovely stay, the room had everything we required with the addition of a very quiet fridge and a small table with chairs. Quiet , clean and tastefully decorated. Would be my first choice of accommodation if visiting Peterhead again.

Guests arrive and contact off-site staff via the doorbell. Rooms are large and have high ceilings. They are fairly basic/budget but clean, comfortable and well maintained. Walls and doors are thick with the only disturbances coming from other guests allowing fire doors to slam as well as the sounds of seagulls and other noise you’d expect from a town centre location. Our room was very warm - which was quickly remedied by turning down the radiators and opening the window. I’d highly recommend Hive (or similar) individual thermostatic radiator valves - they can be easily adjusted by guests but also controlled remotely by the host and set to adjust back to a certain temperature at certain times - so if the room isn’t occupied the temperature can be put right down to save on heating (which must cost a fortune with such high ceilings) and when the room is due to be occupied it can be set to reach a specific temperature at a specific time. You could also tried selling breakfast packs or install a vending machine, utilise the fridges as mini bars, build a website, create social media channels, sell rooms on Airbnb (if not already). Spare/firmer pillows, extra little ‘luxuries’ like biscuits or local/regional treats can provide perceived luxury at very little cost. Can you tell I’d love to run a hotel (so long as I didn’t have up do the cleaning or cooking!)?
