River’s Nook

Photo: simon nolan

River's Nook suits couples wanting a quiet break in the countryside. This detached cedar lodge stands alone on the banks of the River Tanat, surrounded by the Berwyn Mountains. You get the whole place to yourself, with off-street parking and an enclosed garden and patio that overlooks the water.

Inside is a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, and an open-plan living space with a large window framing the river. Essentials including wi-fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are provided. The patio and lawned area give you space to sit outside; the river runs alongside. One dog can stay free of charge. Note that the property is non-smoking.

You're within reach of Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, Lake Vyrnwy and the fringe of Snowdonia, while Revolution Bike Park lies nearby for those wanting to explore on two wheels. Walking and fishing are possible locally. Check-in is after 15:00 and you'll need to leave by 10:00.

Wonderful little chalet right on the river with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Great for walks and exploring, with various disused mines in the local vicinity. April was perfect time to visit as we could watch the baby lambs playing in the field outside. The chalet itself was small but perfectly adequate and had the necessary utensils for cooking etc. Kevin the host was very friendly and on hand for any queries. Would definitely recommend.

We had to leave the property earlier than expected. A total lack of cleanliness, hygiene, and basic amenities. No hot water, a weak WiFi connection, a broken smoke alarm (it went off all night and morning), and no reception or contact person for any problems. In the kitchen, dirty, greasy, and encrusted utensils and stovetop, food residue, waste from previous guests, and very dirty sponges and dishcloths. In the bedroom, unclean and stained sheets, a musty odor, mold and dampness throughout the room and permeating the furniture, and pet hair everywhere. Despite our numerous complaints, the property management has failed to offer any remedy or apologize.

Avoid. Place is dirty, owner aware but did nothing. Despite being sent photos & admitting fault. He agreed his wife was appalled at filthy oven & cupboards. Not a relaxing holiday having to clean up. Blames cleaner, was aware of dirt before our arrival.
