Steam and Stars

I’ve just spent a wonderful weekend at Steam and Stars owned and run by Jon and Clare. (Full disclosure - I know Jon and Clare from previous camping trips). They are seasoned campers so they know about camping and living an outdoor life. WE are a group of discerning campers and we were super impressed If you are in the area (Somerset) then go pay them a visit. If you are not close by it is well worth the trip. Stunning views, amazing wildlife, and the site is fully equipped with all you need to cook, shower and relax. Highlights include: The views - rolling hills, steam trains, and stars Nature - peacocks and peahens, if you sit for a moment you will see rabbits hopping over the hills and horses. I counted 11 bird sounds on my Merlin app in 15 minutes The facilities - fire pit, barbecue wood burning stove, wood-fired hot tubs, fully equipped kitchen and showers. The accommodation is unique, quirky and full of character. Hospitality - so generous, everything was catered for. Loads of information about the local area. They don’t mind questions and are always on hand to help you. Dog friendly - my dog loved running around the site - it was very safe and secure. She is going to sleep for a week after this trip. We had the whole magical place to ourselves (11 friends), which was special in itself but it also meant our dogs could run free rather than be kept on a lead, as is the norm on most campsites. The glamping is first class and you can pitch a tent or two if numbers dictate. The shower was a refreshing surprise and the well-equipped kitchen means you can stay on site for meals if you want to. Finally, the firepit was the usual crowd pleaser as daylight faded. So if you want to share a special piece of nature with a bit of luxury and your best friends/family, this is the place for you.

We could not recommend Steam and Stars more! Clare and Jon are kind and generous hosts - they prepared the hot tub for our arrival (which was beautifully hot!) and greeted us with some local treats for ourselves and our pup, Charlie, too! They also provided marshmallows for toasting on the fire pit which was an unexpected treat and greatly appreciated! A nice touch. The location itself is stunning, rolling countryside & perfect for stargazing. An idyllic setting with plenty of privacy (we were lucky enough to be the only ones staying on site which was incredible) and only the sounds of the peacocks and the steam train for company! We would especially recommend going when the West Somerset Railway is running - watching the steam train roll by so close to us was a magical sight in the morning sun. And there's a perfectly placed bench and knoll to watch it from too! It's such a lovely, quirky spot to reconnect with nature. We were perfectly placed for exploring the Quantocks and the coast as well, which we made the most of during our weekend stay. The Shepherd's Hut itself is beautifully presented and has everything you could need. The facilities were excellent - from well placed mirrors for make-up to hooks for towels by the hot tub and a shelf to place drinks by the hot tub too! The attention to detail in the decor was gorgeous (shout out to the GWR toilet roll holders!). The bathroom and kitchen facilities were plentiful, modern and super clean and the general vibe of the hut was very cosy and modern. We really appreciated all the sockets for our appliances and chargers too! Clare and Jon have honestly thought of everything with this property. We so enjoyed exploring the Quantocks, the local pubs and meeting the locals, who were very friendly and gave us great recommendations! We can't wait to visit again. A perfect getaway from our city life! It really went above and beyond our expectations. Thank you!!

Just so lovely, mattress was a cloud to sleep on, extra kitchen to use was a treat too, we did do jacket potato's in the fire oven and they were delicious x Defo be back to see the steam train in action from March x The photos do not do it justice We are Missing our little cosy home Everything was of such a high standard too Looking forward to your new accommodation arriving soon!!
