What visitors say
Beautiful little hidden gem of a railway. Great Victorian tearoom at Shackerstone and lots of lovely walks around the stations. Son loved Fred the steam engine and looking at all the railway memorabilia.

A nicely restored old train station with a gift shop, museum, and cafe. One of the stops on the Battlefield Line volunteer-operated railroad. You can almost imagine Hercule Poirot and Captain Hastings stopping here during an investigation.

Visited on Saturday in June. There is an offer on over summer 2026 whereby kids tickets are £1. See their website for details. Good offer. We started at the Shenton end of the line and did the trip to Shackerstone station. Takes about 20 mins each way. Not much at Shenton station (small shop and loos) but more at Shackerstone...a few shops, nice tea room, small museum and, again, loos. We rode on a diesel train, website lets you know what engines are running on what timetable. Parking charges at both ends of the line. All in all a nice way to spend a few hours. Very relaxing. Also only a short 10 min walk from Shenton station to the Bosworth Battlefield museum, so easy to make pretty much a day of it if you wanted. Volunteers very helpful and friendly.

The station is not that easy to find, so look out for the brown sign at the turnoff and be prepared for a rather long drive over a bumpy track to the carpark. Once there it is still not a short walk to the station building. Riding the Battlefield Line is rather like journeying through a large scrap yard - you see lots of stock but all in need of restoration. It gave me the feeling that they simply had more than they could handle. Oh, for more volunteers. On the other hand the station buildings and infrastructure are well kept and attractive, particularly Shackerstone, which has a delightful Victorian tearoom and a small museum packed with artifacts, and a very knowledgeable custodian. I visited in late October when there was only one train running - a 2 car DMU. The sensible timetable allowed for the return journey over the whole line to be completed in an hour.
