What visitors say
Asked my son for a review as he has stayed here many times with Scouts and school. When I asked him to rate it out of 5, he gave it a 6. He says they have a great selection of activities available and that the staff and really friendly and helpful. Depending on the booking/time of year, there's the option of indoor residential stays as well as outdoor camping. Highly recommended.

We recently wrapped up our fourth Ukrainian Adventure Camp at Hesley Wood—a South Yorkshire Scouting initiative sharing the Scouting experience with Ukrainian refugee children from in and around Sheffield. Once again, the site delivered everything we needed. With 28 kids, a full team of volunteers (English and Ukrainians) , and a packed programme, the space handled it all brilliantly. The weather was warm, but our woodland campsite kept us cool. We made full use of Hesley’s ‘big ticket’ (though very reasonably priced) activities—crate stacking, cresta run, with obstacle course for our younger adventurers. We also tried the Zip Wire for the first time, which proved hugely popular. Hesley's team of instructors ran the activities well, accommodating our different age groups. The wide-open woodland formed the perfect backdrop for several new activities of our own, including treasure hunting with “Professor Enigma” and the new AI-driven “Open The Box” challenge allowing the kids to explore a little further afield. We enjoyed a massive water slide, met some snakes and created giant sunflowers—although not all at the same time! Hesley Wood is big enough to give you your own space and yet laid out, so you bump into other groups. We met up with 35th St Oswald’s Scouts from our neighbouring district and organised a badge and flag swap. The Hesley team—who I’ve worked with many times—were as supportive and welcoming as ever. I'm so proud to be part of South Yorkshire Scouts when Hesley Wood continues to be such a reliable, well-run centre for events like ours. Thank you again to everyone who helps keep the Hesley experience running smoothly. We’ll see you next year!

It is always a genuine pleasure to come to Hesley Wood for South Yorkshire Scout's annual Ukrainian Adventure Camp. Having first visited in the early '70's, it feels like 'coming home'. I am always proud to tell our visitors that 'all this' is owned by the Scouts. Whilst organising the event I always get such great support from the staff - hats off to Michelle this year. This year we swapped our usual open location for a site in the woods (or forest as I tell the kids). This worked really well, with alter fires and grills all waiting for us on site. We had a coachload of Ukrainian kids, all a long way from home, spend 2 days with us and have such a great time. We call it 'Adventure Camp', and we crammed in a lot of adventure, greatly helped by Hesley's roster of activities, including Go Karts, Crate Stacking, Obstacle Course , Cresta Run. When we had a minor issue with the rolling climbing wall, (may well have been user error), help was quickly on hand. This year's standout new (for us) activity was canoeing using the big Canadian style canoes. It's a great little lake and the instructors ensured the kids all had a great time. A few of the kids also discovered that English water is just as wet as the Ukrainian stuff! Otherwise we were left to get on with it and enjoy ourselves! I look forward to our next visit.

We’ve just returned from our mini summer camp at Hesley Wood. Just brilliant, great staff the scouts really engaged with. The marquee on site 5 is brilliant, you could just turn up with your food for camp and away you go. Definitely worth a visit. Thank you so much
