A no-frills base near Sheffield city centre, best suited to travellers who want friendly service and a decent breakfast over polished decor.

About The Rutland Hotel

For visitors who care more about convenience and a warm welcome than showroom-fresh interiors, The Rutland Hotel on Glossop Rd offers a practical base in Sheffield. It suits business travellers needing meeting rooms and business services, couples planning a wedding with the on-site bridal suite, and families who want en-suite rooms with space to spread out, all within easy reach of the city centre.

Rooms come with the essentials covered, including free WiFi and drinks available in-room, though some have been described as a little tired and in need of updating. Where the hotel does well is on the human side of things: staff are consistently noted as helpful and accommodating, and the breakfast is a genuine highlight worth getting up for. Guests can also make use of the garden and outdoor seating, laundry service, luggage storage, and concierge support for planning the day ahead.

The location puts a golf course, pubs and bars, and a choice of restaurants and eateries all within easy distance, with entertainment nearby for evenings out. It works well as a straightforward stopover or short break rather than a destination in itself, and parking on site adds a practical edge for those arriving by car.

We stayed at The Rutland Hotel for a few nights while attending hospital appointments, and I honestly cannot thank the team enough for the care and support we received during what was a difficult and tiring time for us. A special mention must go to Alison on reception, who truly went the extra mile from the moment we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble, and her kindness and understanding made a real difference to our stay. We were also looked after brilliantly by Zoe, Head of Housekeeping, who ensured our room was always comfortable, clean, and well-prepared to meet our needs. Everything was done with such care and attention to detail. Aaron, the chef, deserves huge praise as well — the food was absolutely delicious. Breakfast was delivered to our room each morning and was excellent every time, which made things so much easier for us. We were travelling with my disabled husband, and the whole team were incredibly accommodating and thoughtful throughout our stay, which we are extremely grateful for. The beds were also very comfortable, which really helped after long and exhausting days. A big thank you to everyone at The Rutland Hotel — especially Alison, who really stood out for her exceptional service. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again and highly recommend the hotel for anyone needing a caring and supportive place to stay.

Had to stay for just 1 night but my experience was amazing. Checked in late but the staff at the reception was very welcoming and made it smooth. Rooms were clean and comfortable. But the best part was the breakfast. The awesome spread and freshly made breakfast (customized for me as I am vegetarian) made an amazing start of the day. I would stay here just for that!! Location was amazing as well, just 5 mins from University of Sheffield.

My first accomodation in Sheffield, therefore, I lack comparison, but I found a decent accomodation for low price here for the two days I stayed in Sheffield in 2024. Cozy bed, clean bathroom, great service, well equipped breakfast bar. On the second day, a false fire alarm made me go from my room to the reception, which wasn't all too pleasant, but to be completely honest, I like to sleep-in, so this abrupt wake-up made me put my clothes on and I could go from the reception straight to the dining room, so I don't really complain :D

We held a small graduation event at the Rutland Hotel Sunday 19 April and had a very positive experience. From our first visit, Sabine (the hotel manager) made us feel welcome, which gave us the confidence to book straight away. During the planning process, she explained everything clearly, responded quickly, and was always happy to help, no request felt too small. On the day, I was a bit flustered, but Sabine stepped in to help set up the room and support me with preparations, even though she didn’t have to. She and her team went above and beyond and showed excellent customer service throughout. Amy, who took over later, was also exceptional also . Overall, Sabine and her team played a big part in making the event special. They were warm, approachable, and professional not just with us, but with our guests too. Sabine is a real asset to the venue.
