About St Michael's Manor Hotel

St Michael's Manor is a family-owned townhouse hotel built around a manor house with parts dating back several centuries, set in five acres of landscaped gardens with a lake, on the edge of the St Michael's conservation area. Its thirty bedrooms are individually decorated, ranging from cosy standard rooms to larger suites overlooking the grounds.

The hotel's gardens are one of its main draws, used for afternoon tea and drinks on warmer days, alongside a restaurant serving modern British menus built around seasonal produce. Its position between Verulamium Park and the city centre means both the Roman remains and the cathedral are within a short walk.

Being independently owned rather than part of a chain, the hotel has a more personal, country-house feel than its size might suggest, and it is regularly used for weddings and private events in addition to overnight stays, so it is worth checking availability around weekends in the summer months.

I attended a wedding in the Oak room yesterday 25th May 2026 and was so impressed with the service from start to finish. The attention to detail was second to none. The canopies, drinks and food was superb. The staff were so attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The drinks were ice cold and sitting outside in the shade overlooking the lake was such a perfect setting. This was my first visit and I will definitely be returning. Thank you to everyone who made my Goddaughters wedding so perfect.

I’ve been coming back to this place for years(first in 2016) and it still delivers. This was my 5th or 6th time and I managed to share this experience with my husband for our wedding anniversary. It’s just so much character and history in this place. The service is best I’ve experienced. And I absolutely love the hidden bathrooms 🤩 it makes you feel like a spy 😅 Even though I have many food allergies the kitchen was able to accommodate. I think their warm breakfast is also best out there and I was even able to have fish and chips. Something I haven’t eaten in 9 years. The proximity to the lake/park just extends the awe. One can really relax here. It’s also great for a run. What I didn’t realize is it’s Roman heritage 🤩 with the mosaics and heated floors from 150 AD. I adore this hotel/restaurant and will be back for sure. And it’s just 30 minutes away from London!!

We went for our anniversary meal last night, the first time we've been there, and definitely not the last. St Michael's Manor is a lovely setting with beautiful interiors and impeccably kept grounds. We were served for our meal by a young man, not sure of his name, and he was excellent - he was attentive, friendly and very polite. The food itself was delicious and came quickly. We had an amazing evening here and we'll definitely be back soon, I would recommend St Michael's Manor to anyone!

✨ A Night of Culinary Magic at St. Michael's Manor Hotel! Our stay was nothing short of extraordinary, with a dinner that danced on our taste buds and left us in awe! 🍽️ The ambiance exuded elegance, surrounded by the charm of a 500-year-old house, converted into a hotel gem in the '60s. 🏰 @stmichaelsmanorhotel The restaurant, a hidden treasure in St. Albans, beckons both residents and non-residents to indulge in a culinary adventure. The menu, a symphony of fine dining options, promised an unforgettable experience. 🌟 The starters, featuring the Smoked Aylesbury Duck Breast, were a revelation – a perfect opening act for the feast that followed. And oh, what a feast it was! The Beef Rump Bourguignon and Lamb Cutlet & Braised Shoulder stole the spotlight with their tenderness and exquisite flavors. 🥩🍷 But it's not just about the food; the warm embrace of the staff and the relaxed setting elevated the entire experience. St. Michael’s Manor, privately owned and managed, exudes a unique charm that sets it apart. ✨ Whether you're a history enthusiast, a foodie seeking perfection, or simply in search of a magical escape, this is the place. An enchanting blend of past and present, St. Michael's Manor Hotel promises not just a meal but an unforgettable journey into culinary bliss. 🌺
