Offley Grove Farm - Shires Stable

Photo: Offley Grove Farm

Shires Stable occupies one of several traditional farm buildings converted into holiday cottages at Offley Grove Farm. The property sits within working farmland where guests can see the animals, walk through fields, or picnic by the stream that runs through the wooded area. A pond on the grounds is worth noting if you're travelling with young children.

Downstairs holds the living and dining space with a TV and DVD player, plus a kitchen equipped for proper cooking—electric oven, microwave, fridge and washing machine all there. Upstairs are two bedrooms: one with a double bed, one with two singles. The shower room has a cubicle and toilet. Bed linen and Wi-Fi are included; heating comes from night storage heaters. There's a grassed garden with a barbecue, bike storage, and parking for one car on site.

The farm's location suits people wanting quiet countryside without being remote—coarse fishing, golf and horse riding are all within five miles, and canal boat trips run along the Shropshire Union canal. Alton Towers, Ironbridge Gorge and several pottery museums fall within a 25-mile drive. No smoking is permitted in the property.

Lovely country hotel. Good breakfast with local produce. Nice shop to buy local alcohol. Great location over looking the fields. They have an event space for weddings and the like. We had barbecue and steak. Was nice. I received a ground floor room with a small patio. Which had an amazing well in the space. Which was cool. Rooms are lovely and well laid out. Quiet and nice. Really enjoyed my night here.

We have just stayed for a long weekend as 18 of us were attending a conference at Telford and made a weekend of it. The cottages are nicely laid out and well equipped. We loved having the big table in The Granary. Our group had a great time together. But the whole experience was let down by little things. Firstly, I arrived first and there was no milk in the fridge. Then there were cobwebs above the sink. This spoilt what could have been much better for very little extra effort. Plus the business model is strange. Having to bring our own towels is a pain and having to pay for electricity on top of the price is just plain odd - just add it to the price... Fix these small but very important details and it would be 5 stars.

Great place with loads of open space for little ones to roam. We were a large group and were split into three separate lodgings, the large lodgings were lovely and had everything you could need or want, the smaller lodgings slightly outraged but still very nice and comfortable. Would reccomends installing stronger shower units in smaller properties. Brilliant stay with very friendly hosts.
