Offley Grove Farm - The Byng

Photo: Offley Grove Farm

Stafford sits within reach of some of the Midlands' most popular attractions—Alton Towers, Ironbridge Gorge, and several pottery museums are all within 25 miles—yet The Byng offers a quieter base on a working farm. This converted farm building is one of five properties arranged around a courtyard, each retaining period character while providing contemporary comfort for a family or group holiday.

The accommodation spreads across two floors. Downstairs, the living room has a TV and DVD player, while the kitchen/dining area contains an electric cooker, microwave, washing machine and fridge. A separate toilet is also on this level. Upstairs are three bedrooms: one with a double bed and ensuite shower, one with a double and two bunk beds, and one with two singles and a sofa bed. A family bathroom with bath and shower serves the other bedrooms. Bed linen and Wi-Fi are included; you'll pay for electricity by meter, and towels are available to hire. Cots and highchairs can be requested in advance.

Outside, there's private parking for one car, a grassed garden area shared with other on-site properties, a barbecue, and bike storage. The location suits walkers and cyclists exploring quiet country lanes, and activities like fishing, golf, horse riding and canal trips are within five miles. Note that there is a pond in the grounds. No smoking is permitted inside.

Lovely country hotel. Good breakfast with local produce. Nice shop to buy local alcohol. Great location over looking the fields. They have an event space for weddings and the like. We had barbecue and steak. Was nice. I received a ground floor room with a small patio. Which had an amazing well in the space. Which was cool. Rooms are lovely and well laid out. Quiet and nice. Really enjoyed my night here.

We have just stayed for a long weekend as 18 of us were attending a conference at Telford and made a weekend of it. The cottages are nicely laid out and well equipped. We loved having the big table in The Granary. Our group had a great time together. But the whole experience was let down by little things. Firstly, I arrived first and there was no milk in the fridge. Then there were cobwebs above the sink. This spoilt what could have been much better for very little extra effort. Plus the business model is strange. Having to bring our own towels is a pain and having to pay for electricity on top of the price is just plain odd - just add it to the price... Fix these small but very important details and it would be 5 stars.

Great place with loads of open space for little ones to roam. We were a large group and were split into three separate lodgings, the large lodgings were lovely and had everything you could need or want, the smaller lodgings slightly outraged but still very nice and comfortable. Would reccomends installing stronger shower units in smaller properties. Brilliant stay with very friendly hosts.
