Hungerford sits in West Berkshire countryside within the North Wessex Downs, a landscape of walking routes and the Kennet & Avon Canal. The town itself draws visitors for antique dealing and independent shops. Four Oaks is a self-contained annexe attached to the owners' home, accessed by its own entrance up a flight of steps, offering couples and small groups complete privacy while set in this rural setting.
The property is arranged over one floor: a combined living, dining and kitchen space with a smart TV; a double bedroom; and an ensuite shower room. The kitchen has an electric oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge, making it straightforward to prepare meals. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are provided. A sitting area in the back garden overlooks forest views—shared with the owners—and there is parking for one car on site. No smoking.
The nearest pub is within a mile. Hungerford itself is about three miles away; Newbury with its racecourse and broader shopping is seven miles further. Canal towpath walks start from the village, and the Berkshire Downs offer cycling and hiking across open ground. A 20-minute drive reaches Highclere Castle.

My experience here was terrible. I booked this place last minute and checked photos, description and read a few reviews where it said it was quiet and peaceful (please see photos). I also checked the location, it showed a thin road compared to others in the village where a cycle route is passing, so thought it was quiet. All the annexes I have stayed in the past were in the owners grounds, but this is just in front of a busy road. I know it was my fault for not asking how busy it was, but it was a Sunday when I booked it and last minute through cottages.com, so decided to trust the reviews. Also the photos gave the impression of a peaceful place surrounded by nature. When I arrived, I was shocked. People that live in cities can think this is quiet because of course is not like a motorway or A road, but when a car passes every few seconds it is busy for me. On top of that there were trucks that shook the place every time felling like little earthquakes. As a highly sensitive person this was a problem for me. I can tolerate some noise, but not when is constant for hours. This creates a lot of stress and tension, my cortisol and adrenaline rises leading to high blood pressure, shortness of breath, chest pressure etc. I started feeling unwell with heart palpitations, nausea and dizziness, this is because it was affecting my vestibular system also. I told the owner and asked if I could have at least a refund for 2 nights out of the 7, and she refused showing no empathy. Knowing she was a retired nurse, I was shocked! To her it didn't matter if I had a heart attack, is all about money most people care in this planet. Due to current circumstances, I had no home to return and have a limited budget, so I felt vulnerable. I managed a bit spending days out and also working from the bedroom with ear plugs as in the kitchen you can still hear the cars even with ear plugs. Jesus said "don't do to another what you do not wish for yourself" he was talking about the law of cause and effect. What you send out it comes back to you, unless it is a lesson to be learned. I love humans and this planet but I will not tolerate this kind of treatment.

Lovely, clean well equipped apartment. The owner was very welcoming. The ceilings are a little low in places, I am not tall so not a problem, but it might be an issue for someone tall.
