What visitors say
The beach has both loyal fans and staunch critics – mainly due to the unique natural conditions of the Bristol Channel. During low tide, the sea recedes by over a kilometer, which is the second-highest tidal range in the world. Below are the pros and cons of this place to help you decide if it’s worth a visit: Pros: The beach is massive: Especially during low tide. Even in the height of the season, it’s easy to find a spot to spread your blanket away from the crowds. Grand Pier: A pier featuring amusement arcades, carousels, and indoor attractions. It’s the perfect place for when the weather suddenly turns bad. Location: The beach is located right by the town center, so it’s close to the train station, car parks, restaurants, and shops. Beautiful sunsets: Due to its westward-facing position, evenings on the beach can be truly spectacular. For children: Donkey rides on the beach are a tradition dating back to the 19th century. Additionally, there is a water park and numerous playgrounds nearby. Events: Great events take place here, such as the famous Weston Beach Race (motorbikes) and air shows. Cons: Dangerous mud: During low tide, the water recedes by more than a kilometer, exposing dangerous, deep mud. Never try to reach the water during low tide – you can get stuck and risk drowning when the tide comes back in. Water color: The water in the Bristol Channel is brown. This isn’t due to pollution, but the vast amount of silt and sand being stirred up. It doesn't look very inviting for a swim. The wind: The beach is very exposed, which means it can get exceptionally windy. On a gusty day, the sand can literally "exfoliate" your skin. Seagulls: They are incredibly bold. If you’re eating chips or ice cream in the open, expect an aerial attack. Old-school vibe: Many people feel the town is "stuck in time" and has the typical atmosphere of a 1990s British seaside resort.

A nice sandy beach, although when the tide goes out past a certain point it becomes a mud flap and not inviting to paddle in. At near high tide it is much more a proper beach. Seafront is well maintained and generally things feel on the up so the walk along the front is very pleasant and a good place for sunsets.

Sea and sand in abundance. Sometimes the sun comes out to play as well. Good for the occasional small scale festival or other beach adjacent attraction.
