Camping in Weston-super-Mare

Weston-super-Mare is not a wild camping destination. Like everywhere else in England, camping on open land without the landowner's permission is against the law, so any stay needs to be on a licensed site or with an owner's explicit agreement. Pitches close to the coast can be exposed to Bristol Channel winds, so a sturdy tent and good pegging matter more here than in more sheltered inland spots, and it is worth checking a site's flood and tidal advice given the area's low-lying position on the Somerset Levels fringe.

Spring through early autumn is the most comfortable window for camping, with long daylight hours for exploring the beach at low tide and walking routes such as Brean Down nearby. High summer brings the busiest pitches and the liveliest atmosphere, particularly around school holidays, while shoulder-season stays in May, June and September tend to be quieter and often better value. For those who want the coastal setting without the tent, glamping options including static caravans, pods and safari tents are increasingly available on sites around Brean and the wider Sedgemoor coast, offering a more comfortable alternative with the same easy reach of Weston's beach, pier and seafront attractions.
