About Stanbrook Abbey

Callow End sits on the River Severn just outside Worcester, and it's here that Stanbrook Abbey occupies a striking former monastery. The building's history is very much part of the appeal, with grand architecture, a bell tower open for guests to explore, and grounds that make the most of the riverside setting.

There are 70 rooms, each en suite and designed with an eye for space and character, along with accessible rooms and a bridal suite for those marrying at the venue. The hotel operates as a wedding venue with meeting rooms too, and facilities extend to a restaurant, bar, room service, and breakfast, with kids' meals available for families. Free WiFi, a lift, free on-site parking and an electric vehicle charge point cover the practical side, and staff are noted for being helpful and professional, which shows in how smoothly events and dining are handled.

Beyond the grounds, the area offers golf and fishing nearby, along with pubs, restaurants and entertainment within easy reach. Worcester itself is close by for those wanting to extend their stay beyond the abbey's own grounds and bell tower views.

Beautiful food excellent service in Refectory restaurant . Beautiful room , I think it would be nice to soften fire place area with something like a china jug & bowl instead of fire place logs in the bathroom. I would definitely stay again & revisit the history at the Abbey it is absolutely beautiful. Room very clean very comfortable pillows. I love the lights in the wardrobe very helpful. Great fridge & drinks in the room too. Lovely body lotion & other wash stuff too. Very welcoming staff . Thank you for all your hard work for making our stay lovely.

We really enjoyed our stay! The rooms were spacious, beautifully designed, and very comfortable. The hotel is set in a stunning historic building that's full of character and fascinating to explore. Meg and the rest of the team made us feel incredibly welcome and ensured our stay was comfortable from start to finish. We would happily stay here again!

We were blown away by the venue the moment we viewed for our wedding. From the breathtaking abbey with the stain glass window and beautiful details in the architecture to the grand Manor House where me and my five bridesmaids stayed the night before and where my family arrived to help me prepare to walk down the isle. The day wouldn’t have been what it was without Liza our wedding coordinator who handled every last detail and kept in contact with us throughout the whole planning journey. I cannot express to you how calm and relieved I was after meeting with her and I thanked her so much because she had gone over everything I was worrying about and made the process so seamless (during a difficult time in her life I wanted to add how resilient, loving and dedicated to her role her strength amazes me). Secondly Clyde who was there with us through every step on the big day. He organised everything from the time we wanted deserts to hand placing every piece of decoration I had brought. He was so amazing and so calm even when we ran behind time I went to him and he has such a calming energy and told me there was nothing to worry about we never felt rushed he keeps everything so organised on the day and I am so so grateful for both of them. Finally Sophie who served us and took over from Clyde later on in the evening she was so professional and passionate about her role I am so amazed by the quality of staff who all truly match your joy and energy on the biggest day of your life. They were all so genuinely happy for me and my husband and without them the day wouldn’t have been so perfect. -Courtney and Morgan Fox

We chose to stay here for my birthday and chose a suite to ensure we got a quiet room.A few days before, the hotel contacted us to ask if there was anything we required. So we made one request: that the safe was ready to use as we find that in-room checks are not being done properly in so many hotels nowadays and we lose valuable time getting someone to address in-room safe problems usually because it has not been re-set.We were assured the check would be done.Wrong.We arrived at reception at an extremely quiet time ( around 3p.m.) and waited and waited and waited.Meanwhile another guest appeared and asked if anyone was on the desk! In the end we had to ask bar staff to contact the reception member. This indicates you need 2 on the desk if a staff member is drawn away from the desk. Not a good start as we needed to eat pretty quickly having taken much longer to arrive due to road works en route. Receptionist appeared, apologised and then took an age checking us in because their system classified my husband's visa/debit card as a mastercard( same thing happened at check-out)Amend your system's mainframe.I even quipped that it would've been quicker to pay good old cash. We asked if safe had been checked.Response: it should be.Should is not a good answer. We went to the room. Checked the safe and frustratingly it hadn't been re-set!! 2 steel bolts protruding from door edge! and just wouldn't accept our new code. On top of which, the safe is positioned af the bottom of the wardrobe in the darkest part of the wardrobe so my 69 year old hubbie had to get down on his knees to access it.Where is the common sense in locating this?Turns out the staff member sent to put the problem right was the very person who was supposed to have checked it.He had to use a key to re-set so definitely not my husband being obtuse. No apology from this underperforming star. Service in St.George's bar was derisory-staff need CS training. We entered to have drinks in the evening and 2 male staff just continued nattering-didn't even acknowledge us. Yet the sofa we had chosen to sit at was dirty with crumbs which another male came to clean when asked_ his solution was to scoop them on the floor where we were to sit (no brush and pan).Even a basic, transport cafe would have higher standards let alone a 4 star hotel.Another lack of training issue. The staff members in the Refectory dining room were excellent though. The worst problem however, was being woken up at around 7 a.m. ( being my birthday, we got to bed around 1a.m.).by the noise of numerous Porsches being revved up (needlessly) on and off for almost 2 hours. It was like race day at Silverstone. We had noticed about 20+ parked up in front of the hotel the day before. Why didn't management stop them revving up at that time of the morning. These drivers displayed arrogance and lack of manners and an entitled attitude. As a consequence, we were exhausted and even though the room, architecture and grounds were stunning, we won't be returning.£310 per night for us means an expectation of a certain level of service and certainly a good sleep which this hotel did not provide.Management you failed.Thank God we booked my birthday meal at the 2 AA rosette Venture In restaurant in Droitwich 1/2 hour away.I think I would have been disappinted eating at the hotel going off everything else we experienced.Perhaps send your staff for training to this excellent establishment.
