About The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa
The Devonshire Arms sits at the entrance to the Bolton Abbey estate, the Duke of Devonshire's 30,000-acre stretch of Wharfedale where the River Wharfe runs past the ruined priory. The building began as a coaching inn and has been extended over the years into a full country house hotel, though the older parts still show their stone walls and low doorways. It is one of the best-known addresses in the southern Dales and works equally as a walking base and as a weekend away in its own right.
Rooms are split between the original house and a newer wing. The older rooms tend to be larger and more traditional, with antique furniture, four-posters and paintings from the Chatsworth collection; the newer ones are lighter and simpler in style. Suites are available for families or longer stays, and several rooms look out over the gardens towards the moor. Dogs are accepted in designated rooms.
The Devonshire Spa is the main draw for many guests, with a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, rasul chamber and a treatment list that runs from short facials to half-day packages. Dining is split between a formal restaurant and a more relaxed brasserie, with much of the meat and game coming off the estate itself. Afternoon tea and Sunday lunch are both served, and the wine cellar is unusually deep for a rural hotel.
It suits couples wanting a comfortable base with a spa attached, walkers who want somewhere proper to come back to after the Strid and Simon's Seat, and anyone using the hotel for a special occasion. Skipton is fifteen minutes away and Grassington, Malham and Bolton Abbey's own riverside paths are all within easy reach. Prices sit at the higher end for the region, and the estate charges separately for car parking at some of its car parks.

A quintessential English and traditional country hotel and spa. We loved the location, the food, the service and a comfortable room. The rooms are traditional with a shower above the bath but it was fine for us, we had brought our own USB plug as we suspected it may be needed - it was. We eat in the brasserie - truly delicious! We had a very relaxing massage treatment in the spa and enjoyed the pool and steam room. Exceptional service which was exemplified by Jane’s guided tour of the estate, this was such an unexpected bonus, if you have the time to build this into your schedule, definitely do this! The service throughout our stay has been exceptional, we leave highly relaxed and would love to return. With thanks Ed & Jo

Recently, I had hired out a private space to propose to my partner. As part of our visit we had a private dining experience and an overnight stay. We are both so incredibly thankful for the effort put in by the whole team at the Devonshire Arms, you have all gone above and beyond. We were both so impressed and amazed with how the room had been decorated for the proposal. The staff as a whole have been excellent, it was so lovely speaking with them all. They seemed just as invested in the proposal! No request was too big or too small as you have all been very accommodating. The customer experience was five-star. All of this just added to what was already such a special day for both of us that we will always look back at it with such fondness.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our welcomed two night stay here at The Devonshire Arms Hotel. Everything was perfect, highly recommend. Hotel offers a guided local walk, which we took part in. Jane was absolutely a delightfull host full of interesting knowledge. Thank you Jane. Such a lovely Spa, reception staff so welcoming especially Linsey and Olivia. Also had a lovely relaxing treatment by therapist Julie. Thank you. We would definitely return.

A very nice location. Arranged prior to visit that my wife has cancer and is a coeliac. I expressly said no special treatment that I just wanted the stay to go smoothly with no upset. We had an upgrade and some chocolates. The food on the brasserie we amazing, top notch.
