Fishermans Lodge is a converted stone barn on the riverside in Amber Valley, a couple of miles from Matlock. The whole property is yours alone, with parking for two cars and a large garden that runs down to fishing access on the water—a licence is needed, but this is the kind of thing you'd come here for.
Everything is on the first floor: an open-plan living and kitchen area with a wood burner, a double bedroom, and a shower room. The kitchen has an electric oven, hob, dishwasher and microwave; the sitting area has Freeview TV and DVD player. Electricity, bed linen, towels and initial logs for the burner are included. A bike store is on site if you want to explore the valley by pedal, and the pub is within a mile. No smoking indoors.
Matlock itself offers Victorian architecture, shopping, and access to Hall Leys Park and the show caverns. The Peak District is on your doorstep. It suits couples wanting a quiet base with the option of fishing, or simply somewhere to disappear into the countryside for a few days.
