About Birchwood Farm Camping and Caravanning
The Smith family has welcomed campers to Birchwood Farm since the 1920s, and that continuity shows in the site's unpretentious, well-kept character. Set on a working farm just off the A6 at Whatstandwell, it sits comfortably within the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site, making it a practical base for Matlock Bath, Cromford Mill and the heritage footpaths that thread through the valley. Thirty-seven electric hook-ups serve a mix of tents, touring caravans and motorhomes, with hardstanding available and free hot showers in the toilet block.
An on-site shop covers basics like bread, milk and ice cream, while a covered barn with table tennis and games gives families somewhere dry to retreat when the weather turns. Dogs are welcome on leads. Some visitors note the facilities can feel a touch dated in places, but the friendly welcome, peaceful farmland setting and genuine family atmosphere keep regulars returning year after year.

Absolutely love this place. Campsite excellent, staff amazing, campsite very clean and maintained upto a high standard. In fact I can't fault this place at all. We stayed at Birchwood over the recent bank holiday. Brilliant location and very accomadating staff. The new onside cafe is a great addition to this site. The girls in the cafe did a brilliant job on what was a very hot and busy weekend. My whole family loved their stay. So much so that we have booked eight pitches for the late bank holiday weekend next year. Lovely little site, cannot recommend enough 🙂

We love it here. Perfect location. Good size pitches. The shop has everything you need and the new cafe was a bonus. We enjoyed our pizza. Nice hot showers. Nothing to fault as always.

Fantastic camp site with a new cafe, shower and toilet block, small shop, park and woods for the kids. Pizza and breakfasts are lush, the owners and staff are really friendly. Would definitely recommend 👌
