Callow Top Holiday Park

I've been here with my young boys a few times and they love it. It's the one place they ask to come back time and time again. It's clean. The staff are friendly. There's a pool, games room and a pub on site. Plenty of walks you can take into Ashbourne or surrounding areas. Great spot to visit Matlock and other tourist attractions in the area. There's plenty of leaflets available in reception for ideas and multiple options for accomdation from camping to apartments.

Not enough Toilets or showers to the ratio of people at weekends. Our pitch felt like we were on the edge of a car park. Do not agree with inflatables in the pool. Could do with more taps for water and more dog poo bins. The Area is wonderful.

Enjoyable stay in a beautiful location, but management could be more proactive. We arrived a little later than planned after missing the entrance at the last minute and travelling several miles before we could safely turn around. Thankfully, check-in was quick, efficient and friendly, allowing us to get settled without any further delays. We were staying with friends and our pitches were excellent – tucked away from the busiest parts of the park, giving us a peaceful base for our holiday. The park itself is well laid out and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The camping fields are spacious, and it was lovely to see so many families enjoying their holidays. The shower facilities were particularly spacious. They were adequate and large enough for two adults or a parent and child to use comfortably together, which is a real bonus for families. The dog paddock was another welcome feature, although it could be improved by dividing it into smaller sections so that more dogs could use the area safely at the same time. While we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we did feel that the park could be managed more proactively in certain areas. The swimming pool was extremely overcrowded on several occasions and, although the rules were clearly displayed, they didn't appear to be enforced. A timetable with designated sessions could help ensure everyone gets to enjoy the facilities, perhaps including quieter adult-only periods at the start and end of the day. We were also concerned by the number of children riding bikes, scooters and electric ride-on vehicles at speed around the park, often coming very close to collisions. One evening we witnessed a large water fight using the fresh and waste water taps, with children splashing passers-by and using glasses taken from the pub. This left the surrounding toilet area dangerously slippery and, unfortunately, gave the impression that there was very little supervision. One additional improvement would be the availability of more food options during peak periods. While many campers, ourselves included, are largely self-sufficient, it would have been a welcome addition to have a visiting food van or ice cream van on site during busy times. At present, the pub is the main option for food and refreshments, but the prices felt quite high for families looking for a quick snack or treat. Having alternative options available, even on selected days, would add to the overall holiday experience and provide greater choice for guests. Despite these issues, we genuinely enjoyed our holiday. The surrounding area is stunning, with easy access to the Tissington Trail and plenty of fantastic walks right from the park. We would certainly consider returning in the future and hope the management take these comments on board, as a little more oversight would make an already lovely park even better.

Quite possibly the worst campsite we have ever stayed on. We managed one night before moving on. The showers are absolutely disgusting, more like individual cells with an exposed shower head hanging from the ceiling. The clientele of the site also leaves a lot to be desired. If your idea of a holiday is feeling like you're on the set of Shameless then this is the sight for you. AVOID. Only redeeming feature was that we were refunded for the nights we didn't stay.
