About Hilly Springs

Tucked into a gentle hillside three miles from the Peak District National Park's boundary, Hilly Springs is a small, adults-only retreat where peace and quiet reign—though you're never far from adventure. The site itself has a rustic, wild-camping feel with non-electric grass pitches, a small lake for fishing, and campfires allowed under the stars. Dogs are welcome year-round (on leads), and facilities are kept simple: a portable toilet block and not much else, which suits those after an back-to-basics escape.

What it lacks in mod cons, it makes up for in location. Alton Towers is just 15 minutes by car, Carsington Water's watersports 20 minutes, and Ashbourne's market town charm lies within walking distance. A farm shop and a decent pub are both five minutes away—handy when you tire of cooking over the fire. Reviewers love the tranquillity and scenery, though some note the basic facilities won't suit everyone. For walkers, stargazers, and anyone craving a low-key pitch with big-name attractions on the doorstep, it's a clever find.

Lovely little campsite. Adults only which is brilliant for a nice quiet stay. Well kept, the facilties are absolutely sound. Excellent price aswell, considering how close you are to the peak district ( thors cave and dovedale are less than 20 mins drive) Will definitely be coming again. For anyone interested in staying it must be said that it isnt the largest of sites so if you are after loads of personal space that probably wouldnt be doable in nice weather etc. But all the positives massively outweigh the negatives.

Nothing to dislike. A small, honest very well cared for campsite with toilet and washing up facility's and good location and a friendly welcome.

Just had a lovely 2 night stay here. Great communication on booking and a really nice welcome when we arrived. Facilities on the site were great Toilet, sink, washing up area, bins. Access to the big field to give our dogs a good run. Local pub and Aldi, small retail park within a 5 min walk. Ashbourne is also a lovely walk along the road or you can access it via the Henmore Brook path. Highly recommend.

I want to 1st start by saying the owners were absolutely fantastic they were really accommodating, they were always reachable if you needed them! 5 things to know before coming 1. There is a beautiful dog called Walter who lives on the farm so he will absolutely pay you a visit so please keep that in mind if you’re thinking of bringing your fur baby’s 2. They don’t have showers so you may need to keep that in mind 3. There’s steps you can walk down that leads you directly to the retail park witch will save you walking the long way around! 4. You can indeed have bbqs 5. This place is absolutely beautiful and the owners couldn’t do enough for us! I highly highly recommend coming here I think it’s an adult only camp sight so that’s amazing if you need some peace and quiet!
