About Basingstoke Country Hotel and Spa

With golf courses, horse riding, pubs and restaurants all within reach, Basingstoke Country Hotel and Spa makes a practical base for exploring the Hampshire countryside without giving up hotel comforts. The setting on Scures Hill keeps things quiet while Basingstoke itself remains close by for anything the hotel doesn't cover.

The hotel has 100 rooms spread across two floors, each with an en-suite bathroom and drinks provided, with lift access and accessible rooms available. Some rooms show their age and could do with better upkeep, so it's worth bearing that in mind when booking. On site there's a restaurant, bar and snack bar, along with breakfast included, though the food doesn't always match expectations. Facilities run to a gym, spa and sauna, plus an indoor swimming pool and steam room, which are consistently the strongest part of a stay here.

Outside there's a garden with outdoor seating, and free on-site parking makes arriving by car straightforward. Pets are welcome, and meeting rooms are available for those combining business with leisure. Staff are frequently singled out as friendly and helpful, and the overall value for money is a genuine draw for guests weighing up where to stay in the area.

I stayed at The Basingstoke Hotel at the beginning of May and was genuinely impressed. The hotel itself is stunning and has huge potential. With the right investment from Britannia Hotels Group, particularly in areas like the back gardens, it could easily become a real standout in the area. For me, though, what really makes a hotel experience is the customer service. Sometimes it is not so much what goes wrong, but how it is dealt with. My first room was very hot. I usually just get on with things, but on this occasion I could not, so I raised it with reception. A new member of staff, Josh, dealt with my concern, and he was an absolute breath of fresh air. He was warm, professional, full of life and clearly loves what he does. He did not just move me rooms; he moved me to a larger room with better amenities and also offered a meal and a few drinks as a gesture of goodwill. It felt completely genuine, not just like an attempt to avoid a bad review. He built real rapport and delivered the sort of customer service I have rarely seen in recent years. Basingstoke Hotel, replicate Josh and you will be onto a winner. A special mention also to Alex, the operations manager, who was just as welcoming and kindly offered coffee on the house in the morning, and to Tyree in the gym, another credit to the hotel. With the right investment, this hotel could be a very strong contender locally. Thank you for making my stay such a pleasant one.

The good thing about staying with a 5 year old is that they see the positives. Lovely room although 2 beds pushed together were different heights, but spare single bed too. Shower was great, lovely decor. Removed panel under the bathroom sink which wasn’t good with a 5 year old. Peaceful sleep Pool was adequate although awkward entry through gym and down stairs to changing rooms and confused why there was a charge for it as hotel members? Gym staff very pleasant. Food very disappointing and overpriced - chips undercooked. Chicken gujons were cheap nuggets and ‘artisan bread with whipped butter’ for £6/7 was baked oven cheap rolls and packaged butter. Bar area very nice with good decor and sofas. Breakfast order was wrong and staff generally seem a bit disconnected but efficient enough. Reception staff lovely. Breakfast buffet was varied. Hotel very run down. My son was very happy but I wouldn’t come if you are a couple looking for a romantic getaway. Good value just for the room.

The room (312) was very comfortable. The bathroom taps were a little bit past their best, but everything worked. Breakfast was 'OK'.

Omg they are selling multiple rooms with no windows and think this is normal. Meant to be a SPA resort. At £134 a night Also no air conditioning in any bed room just a fan (for the felt like converted store rooms) but nothing for the final room which had a window on the 3rd attempt after changing rooms. Really noisy as next to road. The restaurant is buffet only which was dried up and non existent. Was 33c outside and hotter in the rooms. They refused to cancel reservation and almost felt sleeping in the car is better. Do not stay here.
