If you’re after neon lights, Alexa listening to your every thought, although there is one in the living room, (turned it off) and a TV that knows more about you than your partner… this isn’t the place. And thank God for that. Valley View at Greyfield Farm Cottages is exactly what the name promises — and then some. Picture your nan’s cottage (the good kind, not the plastic-covered sofa version, ox blood leather chesterfields and a recliner), drop it into a postcard-worthy valley in the Mendips, throw in a sunset that makes you stop mid-sentence… and you’re about there. Proper switch-off territory. The kind where your shoulders drop without you realising. I’ll admit, on arrival I did give the appliances a cautious once-over. The toaster looked like it had stories to tell, the oven wasn’t trying to win any design awards, and the TV… well, it definitely wasn’t going to start recommending Netflix series. But after about half an hour, something clicked — I didn’t want any of that. That’s the whole point. And for the record, that oven heats up quicker than most modern ones I’ve battled with, and the toaster… let’s just say it takes its job very seriously. We did have a hiccup on night one with the boiler not playing ball. Quick call to the help number and within minutes, oil-filled radiators arrived like a pit crew. Boiler sorted first thing in the morning, log burner fired up, and suddenly we were debating whether clothing was optional. Crisis handled exactly how you’d hope. Hot tub was a great touch — perfect way to wind down. Sauna… well, that one’s on us. Turns out you actually have to turn it on in advance (who knew?). Sat there like a pair of lemons waiting for magic to happen before admitting defeat. The brochure does explain it — although that could do with a bit of an update, still living its best 2020 COVID life on almost every page. Did we explore the area? Not really. Tesco, Spar, and straight back to doing absolutely nothing — which was exactly the plan. Peace, quiet, views for days, and zero pressure to be anywhere or do anything. Would I come back? In a heartbeat. If you want to properly switch off and remember what quiet feels like, this place nails it.

Greyfield Farm is an outstanding place to stay in. We have come every year for 16 years and we are always impressed with the standard of the cottages and with the friendliness and care of the owners. There are SO many activities to do- you will never be bored!!! The cottages are very clean, spacious and well equipped. Can not wait to come back!!

We stayed here Self catering while visiting family in nearby Midsomer Norton. The Cottage was a converted Farm building as were others. The hostess was friendly and helpful, bringing fresh milk on arrival. There was a large comfortable lounge droplets with TV, DVD and X box. There was free WiFi and Alex's. It would be suitable for a stay anytime of the year as Central heating and a log burner in situ. The double bedroom had en suite shower and toilet. We also had a twin room with comfortable beds. The kitchen was well stocked with all necessary utilities including dish washer and washing machine. The second bathroom had an overbath shower. There was plenty of hot water. All Linen and Towels provided. The dining room was at the back of the unit in a conservatory overlooking the countryside. Other facilities were a Hot Tub, which we enjoyed. Gym and Sauna (closed for covid reasons) currently. There is also an outdoor barbecue and a Goldilocks play house. Being a farm there were Goats Hens and Ducks. This is an Ideal family holiday let close to the Mendips.
