When Blackpool calls – whether for the Illuminations, a whirl around the Tower Ballroom or classic seaside fun – one has to answer. But after the bright lights and candy floss, you might crave a quiet retreat. Coppice Huts, tucked away on a working farm just 15 minutes from Lancashire's famous resort, offers exactly that: a contemporary shepherd's hut in a peaceful grassy paddock at the end of a gravel track.

Inside, the kingsize bed cleverly folds away to reveal a dining table with banquettes, and there's a well-equipped kitchenette with butler sink and gas hobs. Outside, a picnic table and firepit invite alfresco meals under the stars. The nearest pub sits in Singleton village, a pleasant 15-minute stroll away, while supermarkets in Wesham or Poulton-le-Fylde are within 10 minutes by car.

Beyond Blackpool's arcades, the Lancaster Canal Footpath beckons walkers and cyclists, and Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve – home to mallards and grebes – lies half an hour's drive into the wetlands. It's a romantic bolt-hole with the coast close enough when you fancy it.
